I made my first model in Gmax, the Planet ship. Could someone texture it for me? I don't have Paint Shop pro or anything like that. Also, if you don't think it's good enough and want to change it, just PM me. Is there anything else besides HPing that i need to do? Thank you. :)
(Also taking reccomendations for registry.)

Have a read through this article I wrote at the BCWiki.
Just constructive criticism here, your model is really in no shape to go past the modeling phase yet. Before rushing into trying to get a ship in the game, I'd practice hard at modeling. Perhaps something a little more specific in form? :)

ok

Oh! :(
DJ, I think you scared him!
Don't worry mate, everybody has to start somewhere. Keep it up.
-
didn't mean to. just don't like to get people's hopes up. it takes a lot of practice to get anything in the game that looks good. it's worth the effort.
-
Didn't scare me!

DJ Curtis is correct.
this is a few shapes, placed together. which in itself is fine, but it needs to be unified, then unwrapped. Nobody would take this on to texture in its current form.

I Agree. @ The Thread Author, If you make things you would like to see in game? More the Better. Just remember this. You mod for yourself. And the rest will fall into place. I too was told what could and could not be done. It's only impossible when you don't try.
Yes, it is possible to create real scale Worldships in game. But too give you some inspiration,
Here is a pic of a immense planet I ported to BC for my personal install...
-
forget it. Im just going to get some practice. I'm making a USS Constitution. I watched Markyd's Saucer & Neck tutorial, but i don't know how to do the rest. Please help :)
-
much better.
from what i see here, you need to spline half of the hull, then lathe it.
-
Also, pay close attention that you have the thing dead centered on the longitudinal axis. Also, don't be afraid to double the segmentation on the saucer edge.
-
Awesome progress, dude :p

What exactly do you mean?
-
sorry for the delayed response, dont get allot of time to log on, so when I do I kind of do it in bursts.
the white line would be the spline you draw, then you lathe it on the axis of the red line.
For a connie hull, you then need to boolean or whatever method you prefer to create the cuts at the bottom and the shuttle bay areas..
-
I did that, but the lathe was a circle.
-
Are you positive you only did a half of the spline you drew? If you cut it lengthways, then it should come up as the basic shape, like Aramus has shown on the image. :)
-
It sounds like you might have to click on the Min button in the align section of the lathe menu once you've done the initial lathe operation.
-
ok, I'll try that.
-
Didn't work out so well. What should I do?
-
google chess set tutorials, there are tuns of spline lathing tuts on that subject.
-
Looks like the spline is trying to be done on the wrong axis for what you want. Try each of the X, Y and Z buttons in the spline menu and then try each one with each of the buttons in the align section. Also, from the looks of it you won't get a great result even if the spline direction is correct, the spline should be the shape of half the hull. From your pic it looks like you have only done the top section of the hull shape.
I've worked out how to do it in Max 3, it's probably the same in Gmax.
With the completed spline (example in pic) click the sub object button and make sure that vertex is selected from the dropdown. Select the 2 vertex's that you want the spline to occur around as shown in pic 1.
Select the spline option and then click the X button. You should then convert it to an editable mesh and perform a weld operation (set at about 0.001 should work) on the object to get rid of excess vertex's. You should hopefully end up with something like in pic 2 (converted to editable and vertex's welded of course).
-
Ok. It worked. But... it seemes there is a hole through the middle. Now what? (Sorry for my extreme n00bness.)
EDIT: I know it's too long.
-
Nevermind. Capped the ends. Now, on to the nacelles.....(help)!
-
Exported what I had into Nifskope. It had some of mesh errors. :'( :'(
-
cylinder with a ball in front
-
No, it's actually supposed to be a USS Constitution, but I don't know how to do warp nacelles yet.
-
the front part of the nacelle is a cylinder with a ball in font, the ball being the bussard
-
Oh.

Hey bud...
Seems to be going quite well for you.
Modeling takes time, just look at my http://bc-central.net/forums/index.php/topic,4337.160.html (http://bc-central.net/forums/index.php/topic,4337.160.html) (note the difrence from my initial post to the final post).
You are coming along quite nicely, and I look forward to seeing more. BTW, about texturing:
If you get tired of modeling for a while try browsing throug this forum. There are some quite simple help to get, especially on the subject of texturing.
If you need a graphics program, try "The Gimp" if you don't have a program already (just google it). It is not as well made as Photoshop or PSP, but, it will do for the sparetime modeler. :)
-
there's something going on on dyna where they are going to go through on some kind of voice chat meeting system (maybe it is even visual I didn't check it ut much) where they'll be modeling and texturing a tos antares class. Maybe that'd be something for you to give a whack at? You should check it out. It's for sfc but since there's alot of model trade between our 2 communities it really doesn't matter.
-
The symposia that Starforce is referring to is actually up right now. It is not SFC or BC specific - the concepts that will be covered can be used anywhere.

i have a nacell tutorial vid going up this week, probably do it tomorrow and i'll post a link for you
