Title: Organized Christmas Release ALL DONE. THANKS EVERYBODY.
Post by: DJ Curtis on December 08, 2009, 12:56:44 AM
Mission Complete

Quote
Anybody interested?

Perhaps Christmas Eve or day?

I know that in the past, the nice thing about releasing a mod on Christmas is that there was usually a big mod or two being released, and yours could sort of ride the wave and see some extra downloads.

If anyone wants to get this going, just say what you are going to release (or say it's a surprise).  Or debate the merits, whatever.

Okay, so if you want a mod added to the list of Christmas Day releases, please post and I will add it.

I'd like all of us modders (since I know not all my commitments are complete) to try and use this as an incentive to get the work finished and make Christmas Day 2009 the biggest release day in BC history.  For a game that's not getting any younger, and a community that's gone strong for a lot years, I think it's just the kind of boost that will help us continue to bring in new talent.

Once this thread has been up for a few days for everyone to see it, I will send in a news item to BCFiles and Filefront to get the word out.

The Following mods should be out Christmas Day.

Starforce edit:
For those using user submit or emailing to files@bcfiles, be sure to put (christmas release) in your title (or email subject) otherwise we may not know it is supposed to be held and approve it right away. It is your responsibility to submit them correctly marked if you want them held for christmas day. Also, that will be christmas day for the continental US/N America region

Me and Jb are almost certainly gonna be releasing something, or multiple somethings. Quite what, and how much, depends on how much time I have to actually do some work. We do it as a gift to the community that supports us though, not to maximise the possible download count. Also gives us an incentive to finish old stuff!

This gives me an excuse to finally upload my tos consortium class/varients fleet. Lets just say...there are a lot of them lol. It will just be the models as they currently are.

Also put me down for two more sets of models(though both of which could be used for the same thing if you use your imagination). Im not gonna say what though, BUT IF someone wants to do the textures for these(could be done in a week if done one per night...not THAT MUCH detail involved really) just send me a pm and I will send them the models once I get around to actually building them which wont be too long hopefully.

I'm in. I have a few that could get released (finally).

go for it. I'm hoping to have time for those 2. My goal today is 2 get 4 ships I've started packed and 2 more I haven't done, more if possible.

Also guys it should be noted that if you want us to release this many ships on christmas we need to start ahead of time, and you need to have your own screenscaps set up.

In other words, each author should make a folder named to match their ship(s), one folder for each ofcourse, fill it with the desired pix, then rar the whole batch up in one rar file and send it over. If possible, if you can get them to us a few days ahead of time we can set the timer to auto release on christmas. To try and post that many on the morning of itself will take hrs and most people have family plans in the afternoons. The last time I released 30 ships it took 4 hrs to post them all properly. Plus I will likely be busy with my own ship efforts untill christmas eve, there is even the possiblility of me hardpointing christmas morning to finish a straggler so the less we gotta do at the last minute the better.

If you are worried about leaks you can send them directly to myself and/or blackrook. I would suggest finished product start comming in by the 19th.

So just to get this little bit of confusion with me sorted, the rar we send to BCF should look something like this?:

Christmas Day Mods.rar   ---> Mod x (folder)        ---> data, scripts, sfx folder and files etc.
Mod x Pics (folder)  ---> Pictures of Mod x

---> Mod y  (folder)       ---> data, scripts sfx folder and files etc.
Mod y Pics (folder)  ---> Pictures of Mod y

That is how I've interpreted the instructions given by Starforce.

Dalek: Dont forget to add in a breaf write up in with the pic's.

To save you guys some work, my team mod will be uploaded by ourselves. We can set the timer to auto release on christmas. Or do we have to summit them in to you to be part of this christmass releace?
Title: Re: Organized Christmas Release DEADLINES IN EFFECT

that reminds me, doesn't BCFiles now allow you to upload and post your own files on a timer?

Mod y Pics (folder)  ---> Pictures of Mod y

That is how I've interpreted the instructions given by Starforce.

Do not include the pix *IN* your mods rar file. If you submit ship x, ship y, and ship z, then you should make a separate rar file (one rar) with folders labled X, Y, and Z and filled with the corresponding pix, directly to a staff member, preferably myself or blackrook, so when we start posting your files we have pix to upload.

If you use the user submit system rather than email or IM:
Make sure (christmas release) is in the mod title. We'll remove it when we approve the file and set the timer so it doesn't look silly once posted, but not everyone may be holding releases till christmas so we need a way to tell which should be held and which shouldn't. If you don't MARK IT and it gets posted right away instead, it's *your fault*.

It should also allow you to submit your pix when you submit your mod. Also, do not use a word for word passage from your readme as a description. Filefront doesn't allow files to be posted like that beacuse it looks bad/lazy and we are supposed to try and avoid that. Make sure the description is a paragraph long description of what your mod is. You can include things like texture res, poly count, ship length, where it fits in the timeline, class, what it's armed with, ect. Easy to get a paragraph with that for any ship. It can be longer but lets not get carried away and write a ten page essay.

If for some reason you can't submit the pix, again, sort pix by ship, rar them all in one batch and give that directly to us.

Also, just a reminder, make sure credits and any permission issues are delt with ahead of time and each ship has a readme.

DJ, edit the main post because is not sure about the planets. I still havent found a script which has the information about the textures, or maybe I should try to write new. I'll se what I can do. For now, the Yorktown refit is finished, the Guitarship was HPed but not tested, the NX refit HP is being scripted by deadthunder. So for these ones I will be done at the and of the week.

Ok, so more like this then:

Christmas Day Mods.rar   ---> Mod x (folder)        ---> data, scripts, sfx folder and files etc.

---> Mod y (folder)       ---> data, scripts sfx folder and files etc.

Chritmas Day Mod Pictures.rar ---> Mod x pictures ---> folder with relevant pictures
Mox y pictures ---> folder with relevant pictures

Like that? (sorry if I'm being picky, I just get very nervous when it comes to setting things up properly and I've got a school concert in about half an hour so I'm extra jumpy :P)

USS Legacy 0.9 public beta

USS Legacy?  What kind of ship is that?
I think it this ship!

And if the Legacy class is that ship. (See my last post) I'm looking forward to it.
I allways liked the ship.

Great ID for this Christmas release, all off them.

no the legacy is a sovereign variant, uses hull armor for stealth,so the ship will not have glows, very easy re-texture, have it done for a while, the armor gives the nacelles a yellow tint the bussards a purple one, and the impulse a dark red one

Is it acceptable to make it that way?
Title: Re: Organized Christmas Release DEADLINES IN EFFECT

You're not paying attention:
1) each mod should be individualy zipped. Just like normal, or if you did one ship at a time.
2) Pix for multiple ships can be placed in a single rar, so as said rar contains "only pix" and no mods, thus you need X number of rar files for how ever many mods, +1 more for ALL pix. When unzipping the rar/zip that contains the images, they should be foldered by ship (or if you want to rename each pic excelcior1, excelcior2, excelcior3, miranda1, miranda2, soverign1, soverign2, ect rather than folders that's fine too)

Actualy, the USS Legacy was a bust. THe star trek legacy game said thet there was a special ship named legacy hidden in the game. To get it you need to have enuff command points to be able to buy 4 sovys. Once you have all for, the last ship is called USS LEGACY. BUT there was nothing special about it.

Ill have the E-6 done tomorrow morning, and have the stats on the C-9/HOK to Starforce at the same time as well.

I hope thats enough time, if not thats alright. I posted an update in the ship thread.
Title: Re: Organized Christmas Release DEADLINES IN EFFECT

If you can atleast tell me if the C9/hok are the same size as the C9a I an get atleast some of it outa the way tonight. Because that's pushing it. I've pm'd yea about that question on both boards 2 days ago..they seem to be the same ship minus or plus certain weapons.
Title: Re: Organized Christmas Release DEADLINES IN EFFECT
Post by: Raven Night on December 21, 2009, 02:23:36 PM
Well, I dont know if they are the same size because I am unsure what size you set the original HOK at.

Here is a scale pic. Im not sure if it will help, but what I can do is make an overhead shot with the C-9 laying over the Neghvar if that will be more helpful.

The C-9 and HOK are the same size of course.

As far as the stats....I can be more specific, but basically you should set the C-9 at the exact same settings you had the HOK originally (minus the wing cannons of course), and add armor, power and the wing cannons for the HOK. The C-9 should be superior in many ways to the Neghvar except for armor, and well superior in speed and maneuverability. The HOK should be superior to the Neghvar in every way except armor, for which they are equal.

The wing cannons, BTW, are shield busters, designed to take down shields on a capital ship in one shot. They are long range heavy cannons on a long cooldown.

Post by: Starforce2 on December 21, 2009, 06:11:45 PM
so basicly the C9a on Bcfiles and the current C9/hok are all the same size? I'm not going to worry about the neghvar untill the BC2 equivlent is actualy available for modding...the last one i did was back when I first started and it's quite honestly a crap hp meant to take on multiple ships so probably a tad overpowered. But I'll try porting the 2 models I have tonight and get to the hp's right off..

A little heads up to everyone submitting files for christmas.
Seeing as the higher ups decided to impliment the new "style" to Filefront, They broke the submit file function on the website in the process,

So it might be a good idea for people to submit files via email to files@bcfiles.com
You will need to Zip/Rar files seperatly from the screenshots,
So an example would be..

Myship.rar
Myshipscreenshots.rar

Hopefully they fix the submit file option on the website by christmas (but i highly doubt it)

On a side note, as it currently stands, me and Jb are gonna be releasing 4 things. A 5th if I can get it fixed in time.

yousendit.com also - it allows for 100mbs of storage...  the guys at bcfiles would have to download it on their end and then upload it...

my releases will likely be curtailed. Thus, the king condor, unless I am feelign alot better tomarrow, is cancled. The shuttles and deneva as well...just too sick to complete them, I've run out of time. Hoping I can do the HOK. That's the priority is finishing that. If there's spare time after that will go to whatever I can make quick. I still hafta pack all these because none of the completeds have readme's or anything yet. I dunno wtf to do about pix.

I'm going to upload my files via FileFront. In one account you can hold up to 600 MB. It might as well be a temporary place to keep the files until they are moved to the Bridge Commander section. I will then send an email to files@bcfiles.com with links to the files and attached zipped files of pictures for each file.

I still have some files to package up and take some pictures, but I'm mostly done.

I dunno but winrar threw errors on 2 or 3 textures on being an ID map. If you still have the link you can retry it if you want. I didn't keep them after I dl'd.

Also, due to the time differences, system time being dec 24th 18 hrs (I've timed some of them to be released around that time) it doesn't make much since to continue time delay with a little over 4 hrs (3 hrs my time) till it's technicly xmas so direct posting from here on out.

Have you tried copying and pasting the stuff from inside the zip file?

I downloaded the version from Mediafire and I found that 2 textures were corrupted: WCfredericksonID_glow and gbsaucer_glow. I can easily fix these files and upload again.

I reuploaded the file to FileFront (not BCfiles) and it uploaded fine and downloaded and extracted great with no problems. I'm going to re-upload it to BCfiles for the last time, and if that doesn't work I still have the file in my personal Filefront account for BCfiles to link to. I hate technology.
Title: Re: Organized Christmas Release SUBMISSIONS ASAP PLEASE
Post by: Starforce2 on December 25, 2009, 01:02:34 AM
Oh wait a second...let me try extracting to a different location. I ran into this with a silent hunter mod...I've got too many fodler layers and it gives a goofy error because the complete path plus filename is over some limit...

Nope. How did u get it the first time? Give me a DL link and I'll try again..over pm or something?

Userfiles have been known to corrupt. one guy deleted 150+ 250 mega multipart files off filefront because half of them were corrupting one to three files each.
