Well, the title says it all. Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have straight up said that they're not doing Transformers 3. This, IMO, has doomed the franchise, because Michael Bay can't write worth crap. It could be good, but I have lost faith. Mainly because of a comment that Megan Fox made that "Transformers would have failed without her." Ummm, no. I didn't go to see Transformers 1 & 2 to see her. I went to see giant transforming robots beating the crap out of each other. I wasn't disappointed in either case.
Referring to Transformers 2 though, I do not understand the negative criticism being thrown at the writers for the movie. It wasn't their fault, not entirely. For one thing, the movie was filmed during a writers' strike, so the writers had no further input on the movie. Which basically means that a lot of the crappiness, ie. the racist Twins, Devastator's wrecking ball scrotum, Wheelie humping Megan Fox's leg, and the fact that the robots were pretty two dimensional and the jokes were puerile at best, was all Michael Bay's fault. I personally believe that a lot of people, after seeing Star Trek and knowing that Trek and Trans2 were written by the same people, expected a lot out of the movie. Which I don't understand. They're for two completely different audiences. I went into Transformers 2 expecting giant robots beating each other up. I came out happy, especially since the story called back to the classic Transformers stuff.
But then came the announcement from Orci and Kurtzman. Now, I had problems with Trans 2. But Bob and Alex knew their lore. They might have even advocated bringing in Unicron. But now that they're gone, I personally believe that the movie franchise is going to go downhill. The TV show franchise won't, especially since they're going to consult on the new CGI show that's coming sometime in the future, and the upcoming War for Cybertron video game looks awesome. But I think that Transformers 3 is going to make Trans 2 look like Oscar material. The 3rd movie will be full of racist remarks, the black and female robots will all be destroyed, and there will be many, many closeups of Megan Fox's cleavage. Mark my words, my friends.
Discuss, and feel free to blast my words apart. After all, it wouldn't be right if we all agreed wholeheartedly on this. :evil

what I wanna know is why they tried again. I'd heard most of the emphasis was on the cheezecake for RoF (at least Fallen is now Canon, instead of just comic canon).
you'd think they'd learn their lesson from the "bad video game movie" era. unless something is written with the original fans in mind from the start, those of us old enough to count as "geewunners", then it's gonna flop the second time. if the second one gets "this sucks (anatomy)" reviews, don't even THINK about a threequal.
something else I'm noticing is that they always make these reboots for the current generation viewing audience, rather than the original fans. thus JJtrek's action reboot style. problem is, it sucks just as bad if they pander to the original fans completely, which goes over the younger one's heads, and puts the middle gens to sleep. they oughta focus their demographics research into these kids of movies at the guys that are fans of the peak of the franchise's popularity.
in the case of the Tranformers franchise, they should probably have focused on the attitudes and charecterizations on the "beast" era, while using the G1 styles and adding enough of the explosions and T&A to satisfy the current gen.

They were hardly great entertainment.
Transformers 1:
2 hour live action commercial for a new line of toys.
Transformers 2:
2 hour racist live action commercial for a new line of toys, with, for some reason, a small robot humping Megan Fox's leg and some uneeded wrecking ball testicles on Devastator. It was way too loud. You could hardly hear the dialogue. When turning up the volume to hear dialogue, if some action happens next and you not turn the volume down, you had best be ready to have angry neighbours knocking on your door.
Orci and Kurtzman should never write ANY movie again. I mean, come on, look how bad Star Trek XI was for goodness sake!

yeah both movies were lame IMHO, kinda like Power Rangers with better FX... ST XI was far better... don't count endless claustophobic abyss of plot flaws... still it was ... better :|
at least GFX wise :funny
