Title: Bringing back the dead (Halo UNSC craft & Starfox 64)
Post by: Villain on February 16, 2010, 07:31:09 AM
Because the Halo project fell through quite some time ago, and I hate to see stuff go to waste, I'm releasing the Halcyon shortly on BCF. To go with it I've recreated the Longsword, and the In Amber Clad is close to done, or so I think. I might touch up/finish the escape pod model to go along with them. The Pelican might get done, but I don't see all that much point for it.

Also adding in a little something extra, though it will probably never really see the light of day.

*Halcyon model has been touched up in areas that it was lacking, and that weird error only showed up in those renders, so yes, I have seen them.

*Longsword model is complete, 100% finished.

*Interior nearly done, with enhancements to come.

C&C appreciated as always.

Another ship I took up working on a long, long while ago was the famed Arwing of Starfox 64/Lylat Wars. The model is now a complete replica of the original N64 model, with a small addition to give it a little more in terms of sturdiness (Supports between Foils/Body). Due to its simplicity, I've added a number of enemy craft...

Also in this pack are:

Wolfen Mk 1, finished (Star Wolf team craft)

Dorisby cruiser, finished (The cruisers you fight at Sector Y when they try to block you off)

Grazan carrier, finished (The carrier you fly in between at a storyline split)

Saruzin capital ship, finished (Carrier of Shogun, the monkey looking Mecha)

Zeram capital ship, started. (Blockade members surrounding Venom)

Attack cruiser, started (True Corneria boss)

True Wolfen Mk 2, undecided (White and purple Wolfen upgrade)

Cornerian Navy cruiser, finished

Cornerian Flagship, finished

Are they public domain meshes or are they complete mods?

It'll be easy to import them to workable NIFs and I assume simple to make the appropiate scripts (i've only ever made plugins and soundpacks) but I was just wondering because I am curious.

I don't follow.  :wtf

They'll be released for peoples personal use, be it to screw around with, or whatever it is people do with them. My only policy is that people send me an email and ask to release them, really.

So they'd most likely be released in popular formats like the Normandy was.

What he's asking is will they be public domain meshes and released in either .MAX format or .3ds format like Red Dragon's meshes...Or are you planning on converting them to .nif?

Of course back then the Normandy wasn't in NIF because I didn't have the means. This would be nif, 3ds, obj, probably.

your gonna get two kinds of responses to this Starfox pack.  Flack for making "poser ships", and several thousand drooling furries.  I warn you now.

I was never impressed with the starfox craft due to their crudeness, which I now know is due to the limitation of the 3d chip embedded in the original carts.

I don't even know what Cairo Station is, as for the pelican, my initial reason was for a lack of weaponry, but as I realise that it carries gatlings and such (And the variable pods) it could be done.

I'm sorry, why do I care, again? Whether you were impressed or not at the time is irrelevant, as that was damn impressive for such a limited console (Especially as it was one of the earliest games). Talking about the limitations now is completely pointless, because I can just as easily look back and say "Wow, HL1 looked terrible". Remaking ships that can be identified as from Lylat Wars means silouhettes are easier to recognize at distance.

The reason I made them as close to the originals as I could as A) Large, very large fleet battles can be envisioned  B) People tend to enjoy reliving memories of old games as they were. While BC won't support Railshooting, it will support the look and feel, which I find is the most important part. With a pack like this, people can roleplay battles and other things that the original game never intended to support, while retaining the feel. Heck, all of the art for that era of Star Fox shows the crafts exactly the same. Venomian crafts are designed not for visual asthetic, much like the borg. The arwings of the current generation are much different, and when I have significant reference images of them, I'll take it up.

As for the furries comment, I make the models I choose for the entertainment and enjoyment of everybody, as I'm sure most do. If they're furries, so be it, if they aren't, so be it. What matters is that people enjoy them, is it not?

That said, I don't think I'll be doing a model of Andross, at least not yet...

well, well, someone that doesn't get all "eww, those perverts" at the mention of the word furry.  believe me, I wasn't impressed with those ships when the game originally came out, and they look even funkier, now.  at least you didn't make them with a bad case of overlapping polygons with all the points sticking out in random places :P

railshooter is retro, and it will be a treat seeing these in a proper 3d space.  the only thing I wonder is if there's enough shots of the skins for refrences, later, when they have skins ON them.

What people do in their private time is their business, not mine, and while I don't approve of the idea, it's not my place to tell them it's wrong.

Don't you worry about textures, let me worry about blank.
