Title: Dyson Class Early Explorer (Released)
Post by: GMunoz on February 16, 2010, 04:04:26 PM
This is a Dyson-Class Early explorer.  Obvious evolution from the Daedalus - Class ships.

OMG!  how cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute! <3

seriously, this makes a good evolution spot, and could explain why TOS saucers have that bulge in the middle.  if Candle was around more, I'm sure he'd chime in, as well.  I'm gonna assume this thing has a sort of cross between Kelvin Pulses, NX proto-torpedos, and TOS torpedoes as well as the equivelant of the midpoint between lasers and phasers that Kelvins sport.

this is why I have a giant pile of your ships.

Edit: now I better dig up the Hermes, again, to go with it, as soon as I can find the correct finished model, that is.

For some reason, the saucer section reminds me of the ship at the end of E.T.

I have a question about this ship...

Where's the bridge? It looks like it would be a good exploration vessel (With 2 sensor domes), but no visible command centre?

I would guess somewhere at the front end of the saucer section surrounding the sphere?

The bridge is on top of the sphere.  I guess what you are seeing as another sensor dome.

Ok Starforce, here is an update to the Dyson's 'assets', a bit cleaner not as blobish.

Edit:  Some in-game shots of re-worked model.  Comments please.

carrying over the Dade's trademark e hull rings into the saucer portion design is brilliant.  it also makes it look like an immediate predecessor to the deflector grid.  I noticed the double stack shape of the nacelles.  a similar take on that was used on the TMP refit daedalus.  I'm also loving the effect on the nacelle butt plasma vents.  looks like disco lights at that angle.

I'm gonna say no to those blue nacelle ends. Maybe if you lighten them up and desaturate them, but as they stand they just do not look good.

Yes I plan to clean up the plasma vents on the nacelle ends.

Thanks, I now have that certain song stuck in my head  :argh:

This is looking great!  Definite explination for the shape of the connie saucer :)

Ok, I think these "Disco Balls" are more acceptable:

Looking good. I like the windows that you put on the ventral bulge.

BTW, how come you've hardly ever put windows on the ventral "bulges" of any of your other TOS mods? I know that TOS ships never were big on too many details but even the TOS connie on the show had a few of them (windows and such) on the ventral part of the saucer.

the nacelle butts are a natty improvement, and should be less "tacky" to most people. where were you intending to put a Shuttle Bay, if any?

That's looking good. I especially like the ends of the nacelles. You did a good job creating that design.
