This is the start of the roxy class i'm building from scratch. I would to know what you think plus some tips. Specs to this class will come soon.
Plus I need some help making the enginering section and the nacelles + struts
-
Add more segments to the saucer to give it a nice rounder look.
-
I will try that later but first I want to get the full model done before I add more segments. May I ask how do I go about making the secondary hull, the ways i've tried didn't go well. All help is appreciated.
-
I would recommend following this tutorial .
http://bc-central.net/forums/index.php/topic,4115.0.html
hopefully help with the smoothing.
-
Yeap that is the tutorial I have been working from. But it didn't go onto any information for creating the secondary hull. Although the tutorial is pretty good.
-
What shape are you going for? Traditional Connie hull?
-
similar here is the design of the ship
-
That's the TMP Asia Class. I made a hull for an Asia model. Normally I use a cylinder with quite a few length segments, and then extrude the front a few times to get the deflector shape right, and as for the aft end, I did it the cheap and easy way, I just hinged along the center edge to create a dome, scaled it to get the shape more or less right, and then created a spline in the left profile window to match the curve of the cove of the hull (that part on the bottom aft that looks like someone cut out a major part of the ship), and then used the spline to cut out the shape from the hull.
-
Do you know any tutorials that are based on making a secondary hull because I learn things through images and some text without somekind of images I get confused. Thanks for tip
-
There's only one that I know of, and it's this one...
http://discovery.scifi-art.com/1701/1701tut.htm
Unfortunately, the way it describes making the hull is different than how I described it, however some steps are similar.
-
thankyou for your help
-
Here is my progress. The secondary hull is from the tmp connie from legacy because every attempt I made really didn't look right and with added neck piece and hump by me.
-
Not bad.
-
Its a good job and you are making progress..
When i made that saucer neck tut, the idea was to show how to make the structures unified without using a boolean.. mabey i should make a bigger fuller one..
nice job mate

Here is what I've done. I think I'm near the end of the model what do you think. Texturing is my next worry since I've mainly retextured other ships in Star Trek Legacy and not Bridge Commander any tips welcome.
-
heh. leave that slantback angle on the nacelles, for one thing. make the neckside humps with clusters of docking ports. they also look like they'd make good spots to stick torp launchers in. also, do you have a front shot of the lower neck with a better view? i'm wondering if you've connected those in the front. i'd stick a main torp launcher setup right there if I didn't put them in the humps themselves.
other than sticking a logo on the humps as well as on the drive hull, I can't think of much to add in extra textures.
-
Well my torpedo tube modelling isn't very good but hey it sort of looks like one.
-
Does MilkShape have a function called "chamfer"? If it does, you should use it a bit on the edges of things like the nacelles and saucer. Chamfering does what the picture below shows: it rounds out edges a bit so that they aren't so harsh. Since most things in the Trek world are curved at least a little bit, it helps flesh out your model.
Also, on that torpedo launcher, remove most of the smoothing and leave the raw edging, since that's one spot on a starship where there are usually a lot of sharp angles. Take a look at ships like the Intrepid and Nova, as well as the Enterprise A, to see what I mean.
-
Nah, from what I remember Milkshape doesn't have Chamfer or anything like it, but then, it was initially created for importing/exporting HL-1 models if I'm not mistaken.
This design is odd, I like odd. :)
-
Here it is fully textured (registries coming) the textures are 512x512. I will start the necessary requirements for it to be put into bc later after I have put it into legacy. What do you think.
-
I'm not gonna bash your model just because I can't make better model ATM :P but surely you could put some additional polies here and there, from what I can see you have no smoothing at all and the textures could be much better, it's your first ship ?
oh I like the overall shape of your nacelles btw. ;)
-
Well most of the textures are from stock textures from star trek legacy so they will look abit bad but I like them. And when I release I will allow anyone to mess around with the textures, model etc as long as I get credit so someone may enhance or I may in the future. Plus here is a small destroyer I made from the parts of the Roxy.
-
if you ever BC this, make sure you 1024 or 2048 the textures.
-
They will be 1024 and I will do 512 for ow end users
