Put this baby in your startup folder in program files and you'll always have a faster computer.  You can definitely see the difference when you're on Vista. ;)

agreed on the game booster.  I'm no longer having hangups with BC on higher res textures.  it also appears i got a couple of partially disabled mods back, as well.  I'm gonna test it with a real memory eater of a game i have, Mushroom Kingdom Fusion 0.4 beta.  they've made so many adjustments to the engine in the latest it slows down to 3 frames per second, and renders itself useless.

all of these are quite handy, I got some, I hook-up my older brother with Irfanview, he had to check some technical pics and the only viewer that would run em is Irfanview

http://www.avast.com/index This is a really good anti-virus program.

http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php This is a awesome anit-malware/spyware/rootkit program.

http://www.piriform.com/defraggler This is a neat little defragging tool. From the creators of CCleaner and Recuva.

http://www.getpaint.net/index.html As is its a decent little painting/image editing program but after you've downloaded some plugins its usefulness goes way up. Kind of a mspaint 2.0 if you will.

http://www.gimp.org/ In some areas its better than paint.net and not so much in others. There are many plugins out there for it aswell.

This might be VERY helpful, who all has tried it?
How did it do?

It works wonders for me. BC and Fleet Ops have never run better since I started using it.

hmm... perhaps i shall give that program a try also...
how does it work?  what settings are best?  does it re-open programs when the game exits?
Title: Re: Useful Free Software

Jimmy: just install the thing, and it shuts off some background stuff.  even my browsers are working faster.  it also has a built in mini-defragger for game folders.  it shuts about 20 background programs off for me.  the whole thing is controlled by a switch right IN the program.  one of the simplist and most effective programs I've ever seen.

I usually kill everything except for Daemon tools. I don't worry about killing my anti-virus because I disconnect from the Internet before I do it, but even if you stay online you should be fine, it doesn't kill any firewalls or Windows security settings and they're fine for playing games like BC, EF, A2, or MMO's online.

Not automatically, you re-open the program from the system tray/desktop/start menu and click on "Switch to Normal Mode," at that point everything is turned back on the way it was.

KMPlayer (http://download.cnet.com/The-KMPlayer/3000-13632_4-10659939.html) Media player that plays everything. avis, wmvs, kmvs, even flvs, 3gps and that quick time thing I forget. Fast too.
Faststone (http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDownload.htm) Image viewer which can open tons (all?) image files, even psds. I like the fact that it opens the images with nothing else on the screen. (if you associate picture files with it) Suggested options are to set left/right mouse click for previous/next image and mouse wheel for zoom in/zoom out.
CDBurnerXP (http://cdburnerxp.se/) Small and free CD/DVD writing program.

CDBurnerXP (http://cdburnerxp.se/) Small and free CD/DVD writing program.
question about this one - ive always used WMP to burn cd's (music) is this program better?  if so, why?  im always seeking something better than what i use when it comes to software...
also, does it burn dvd's as far as movies and such?  if i have a movie on my harddrive, would that work?  im still unsure of the best possible dvd burning program...
Title: Re: Useful Free Software
Post by: Senator on August 13, 2010, 07:49:46 AM
Well, I don't burn music cds (all my devices play mp3s) and I don't burn movie dvds. (The computer is the source for all the datas!)
I just use it to burn random files inside cdvds, or burn isos. I know that it can create audio cds (you just drag & drop files in it) but no idea about movies.

It's small, light and simple and I find it supperior to any burning software I've ever tryed.

ok i have a question...
what is the best filesync program?
for example, if i have 2 music folders, one on my pc and one on the laptop, and they pretty much have the same things...  except there is a bunch of stuff i dont have on my desktop that i do on my laptop and nive versa...
whats the best way to sync them both up so theyre the same?

well its simple really, first, you cross the plasma injectors with the black cable on the inside of your laptop, then, stick a purple marshmallow in your desktop thats hooked up to an subspace transceiver and pump for million quadra volts into it and then...

in short, No Clue

Another good logon background changing program that I have been using Is TweaksLogon. It's stupid simple to use and will automatically resize images to fit your display.

http://tweaks.com/software/tweakslogon/ (http://tweaks.com/software/tweakslogon/)

For the home theater enthusiast in anyone might I suggest the Boxee software. It supports all the major file types and supports a lot of the major stream services Vudu, Netflix, Pandora, Last.FM, YouTube. (still no Hulu support though as of yet) It also sports a very user friendly UI and has customizable backgrounds, social integration, and management of your media library.

a simple and easy to use 3d modeling program is Metasequoia, i use it, its a really simple program, though unregistered it will only export to its native format (.mqo) exporting to .obj or .3ds is disabled untill a key is brought, but its still good for modeling, there are some freeware and shareware versions available at  http://www.metaseq.net (http://www.metaseq.net) after going in, click on the green tab that says english, and it will go straight to the downloads page.

the freeware can export to all formats, but are less advanced, the shareware need a key but are a bit more robust and adabtable.

hope its usefull to ya all!

the program also uses, you guessed it, python scripting, to help create new plugins, etc...
but there is a Plugins SDK for visual basic or C++, maybe someone will develop an STBC import and export plugin or it, which will allow us to edit the anims and generate new bridges that work ingame aswell. well, thats my two cents.
