And, since it's my first time (ever) doing something like this, can anybody give me an idea of what to expect, in terms of people, etc? My GameStop has over 500 reserved copies. Now, hopefully, things go rather quickly. I've read, from forums across the internet, that some GameStop locations have had everybody in and out the door with their game copies in hand by 12:45; and that was with MW2, the biggest selling game of 2009. So I'm not sure what to expect. From everything I've read, I guess GS gives you a special receipt, which you show after midnight and they literally hand you your copy and you walk out.
Suggestions? Experiences?
-
You get a special receipt and then the virgins dance naked around the circle of power. The circle of power summons the Gateway and you all pass to the dimension of Akathamaltur whereas first you cross the lava sea with Tranturian rockships and reach the flying port of Shamal (just by the diamond spires). After the feast of 9 days and 9 nights when everyone is asleep, the aetherial ship will appear, which you will proceed to board and fly through the 8 cloud layers and through the hole of the skydome into the land of the black two horned unicorn, where everything is upside down and made of glassy mirrors.
There you will be tasked with bringing back to the aetherial ship the only creatures not made of glass (the reflections can be annoying) and the correct answer is going to be: Yourselves. (People sometimes get this wrong and they end searching forever until they believe that they are nothing but a reflection). You might also see some black unicorns but that's just a trick.
When you board the aetherial ship again, you go down through the skyhole again but this time you will stop on the 4th cloudlayer, which is actually made of solidified birds, in order to search for the mad elf mathematician who will ask you to bring the 8 side cube to him. Just hand him the receipt and he will give you an egg.
The egg is actually the game, but it needs to be hatched, so back to 2nd cloudlayer if memory serves (the aetherial ship has a GPS but it only speaks in a language where all sounds sound like your mother dieing so most people turn that off), at which point you meet the skeleton of a dragon, which you have to time-reverse in order to make him live again (just use the machine nearby. It has a very intuitive GUI. ), make him hatch the egg, and then finally you will head towards the 8th cloud layer, avoiding the plane of the sex crazed supermodels (lots of people don't return from that one) at which point they usually just sacrifice the noob-est guy in front of the altar of Demonoeconomicon in order to summon the Gateway back to reality.

In laymans terms, why didn't you pre-order it like a normal person? Then you'd have it arrive on release day.
No, seriously. I've never understood the whole point of queueing for hours for something. I am a Muse fanatic. I've seen them live 6 times and they keep getting better and better. And yet, no matter how much I like them, nothing could compell me to turn up to a gig 3 hours or more before the gates even open to make sure I have a good place, then be unable to move through the inevitably shit support acts.
The game is going to be exactly the same (if not slightly better with the inevitable day 1 patch) if you wait a bit than if you get it the second it's released.
Also, epic win Sen!

Why can't you people just preorder online and be happy not to wait in a cue for hours on end? :idk:

Not everyone in Britain is an "Arthur Dent", lol.
(If you have seen the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy movie, then you'll get the reference)

I have, it's brilliant. :P

Why is it going overseas from Amazon.com? Aren't you a US resident?
-
Eh...I once had to wait 3 hours before a Plain White T's concert...but that was because I wanted to avoid traffic....
But yes...why not pre-order the game???
-

But he's currently in the UK.
-
Lol. I just pre-ordered games. Wasting my time sitting outside of a Best Buy, Walmart, K-mart, Game Stop, exc, just sitting with a tent pitched with a PS3 or Xbox 360 hooked up to a generator just to wait for a new game to come out of a box. There are some craaazy people in this world. I am one of them, but not to this extent..
Though when J.J.'s Star Trek movie came out for IMAX, my brother and I did set with a portable DVD player and watch TOS. But that is a movie though. A Star Trek movie none the less, so our actions were perfectly justified.

Lol halo.
-
Mine hasn't come yet :(
-
So side, what games do you play?
-
Lol halo.
Indeed.
-
Indeed.
:lostit: I don't get it ... what's wrong with Halo ? so far it's my second fav sci-fi game (still waiting for Halo 3, ODST and now Reach to come for PC)

I'm doubtful they ever will. Bungie's contract with Microsoft ends very soon, and they're not renewing it. The Halo franchise belongs to Microsoft and not Bungie, and let's face it, Microsoft don't really give a damn about the PC gaming market anymore.
-
Awwww.... oh well, maybe I'll finally get that PS2 replaced with 360 :P

Fixed for truth and justice. :dontcare:

And even then Halo 2 for PC was a poor port :(
-
Amen to that... I had to phone Microsoft troubleshooting office to get my copy activation key unlocked (I've activated it on my PC 3 times... each time configuration was different ... replaced GFX card, HDD or garbage like that) not to mention lag factor and wonky controlls  but all in all it was a fun game and cool plot :)

I have to agree with the Lol halo comment. :dontcare:

Half Life > Halo
Quality > Quantity!
(In my opinion)
-
the latest Halo actually has good quality stuff but it's no Half Life.

Reach is the best Halo game ever made. Well, of the five made in total..
-
Anyways, my friend and I got there at 10:55 and there was literally only 75 people there. In the next hour about 75 more showed up. When it hit midnight we were in and out of GameStop within 10 minutes. I was very surprised.
-
Half Life > .....
...... > Quantity!
Hasn't there been a third part of a second sequel missing for nearly 4 years now? :D
I'm sorry but when "Half-Life 2" and "quantity" made it into the same sentence, I had to lol.
Anyway, we should probably stop this thread. I don't think JimmyB would like us turning this thread into an argument over which game has what.
-
Because people keep making "Gabe is fat" jokes. Also, I don't think that was the point he was trying to get across (That HL has quantity)..
-
Half Life is forever! None can stop the mighty Gordon Freeman and his handy Crowbar!
I am still wanting them to try and make a Half Life movie!!
-

Halo CE man...Halo CE...
Gave me the chills...
Although when I got Reach & messed around w/ it, I thought, 'okay you gears fans you CoD fans, you can suck it realllllll good'
-
also Halo Custom Ed is one of my fav LAN games ever :D .. damn dumb bungie [grumble]....
-
There's a small movie being made of HL already, the trailer looked pretty decent, and I'm not really a fan of HL. The question is: How do you make a movie abuot a character who doesn't speak?
As for GoW and CoD, what do they have to do with Halo Reach? Neither of those games are anything alike.

Edward Norton could play Gordon Freeman. Or Hugh Laurie, or Garry Oldman. They resemble Gordon freeman in my opinion. But that fan movie you are referring to is Escape From City 17. I have seen bits and pieces of it on Youtube. But it doesn't center around Gordon Freeman, it centers around the resistance trying to... well.... escape from City 17 lol.

Easily the three biggest shooter franchises...

Was referring to another one, different guys. City 17 looked shoddy at best.
It's not about who they can cast for Freeman, it's about him not having lines. The movie would be incredibly boring and if they added in lines for him the hardcore fans would denounce it.
Easily the three biggest shooter franchises...
And yet they have nothing in common. Funny that.
-

Have you played Halo: Reach? They incorporated elements from all three franchises. You could almost say that Reach bridged the gap.
-
Why would I? The Halo story doesn't appeal to me in the slightest, the only thing that does (even remotely) of it are the ships.
But what you're saying is, Halo tries to be a teambased, somewhat skillbased, run-and-gun shooter in third and first person at the same time, with a knife button, context-sensitive cover, customizable weapons, curb-stomping, with a levelling system (And prestige mode), unlockable weapons, set in several real-world derived areas with aliens that live under the surface, on a ring that is purely fictional, with a super-trooper protagonist and his digital sidekick, fighting aliens from another galaxy using killstreak-awarded powerups like radar and artillery?
Lots of games use similar mechanics, that doesn't mean they're bridges between games... :idk:
-
>_>
Well alright, if you want to get technical, it's *nothing* like Gears; technically speaking. However the mechanics are alike.
-
I've heard from people moving over from CoD that Halo is actually quite a bit more challenging in MP.
-

That's not saying much. CoD in its current form has very little in way of skill, it's all abuot whether you're hosting the match or not. As for Halo, well... I suppose there's some skill in using a control instead of using a mouse (Provided there is absolutely no auto-aim, which if I recall no console shooter turns it off entirely for playability reasons)
-
it's not the using the controller that requires the skill...
need to find the vid that explained all this again >.> was part of "The Game Station" on youtube.
-
Given that you can't be as quick and precise with a control as you can with a mouse, I'd say that factors in, actually.
-
ya do know CoD is also for the Xbox right?
-
And PS3, but you're not following. I was talking about PC versions (Why would I be talking otherwise?)
-
I was stating that Halo: Reach requires more skill in MP from people who moved over from CoD on the xbox...
-
We're talking about what I'm talking about, not the other way around. :dontcare:
-
sorry but no... XD
-
I think you'll find we are. I'm always talking about what I'm talking about. Not what others are talking about. :nono:
-
How incredibly crass. Anyways, Halo does require skill--and Villain is right, the auto-aim is never *fully* off, though I wish like hell it was. Can't tell you how many times I've been scoping someone with a sniper rifle, and someone else walks by, pulls the scope away. So damn irritating.
-
huh I haven't seen that action happen on the vids I've watched >.>
especially the sniper only games.
-
Shields make Halo way more fun than CoD....better weapons too
