Title: Gran Turismo 6
Post by: ECGadget on September 21, 2010, 01:10:05 PM
Discuss GT at will here, Cars, Release dates, features, anything!

I for one can't wait for it! First car... I wanna get a Focus! xD But Japanese Cars like a Civic or Integra might be nice... perhaps I'll use my GT5P Cars... or my Stealth and Chromeline cars... hmmm

Post by: Lionus on September 21, 2010, 01:12:34 PM
I myself shall first start tackling the driving licences.. then get a car.. probably something small, perky and Japanese, along the lines of MX-5, AE86, AW11 MR2.. but NO HONDAS. VTEC is a poor substitute for a properly done engine.  :funny

Post by: ECGadget on September 21, 2010, 01:19:17 PM
LOL, Oh yeah! It's been like 5 years since I did licence tests! Gotta do them... I really hope F1 cars make the cut!
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Lionus on September 21, 2010, 02:46:00 PM
Pfff.. F1 cars are for those who can't tune the cars to be fast enough.  :P
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: ECGadget on September 21, 2010, 02:50:57 PM
LOL, or for the elite who can control them... I only want them for the F1 Races... I prefer challenges...
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Lionus on September 21, 2010, 02:51:41 PM
So, you can drive it without the TCS, eh?
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: ECGadget on September 21, 2010, 03:04:13 PM
No TCS, No ASM, S2 Tires, No ABS... and I'm 6 seconds off the No.1 Time...
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Lionus on September 21, 2010, 03:13:41 PM
hm.. depending of the car, I'm usually 2-4 seconds off.. but most of those laptimes are made by monkeys who love abusing the run-off areas to keep the speed up..
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: ECGadget on September 21, 2010, 03:15:42 PM
Yeah I know what you mean... I'm trying to figure out how the fastest time in a Ford Focus is 1:27.6 or something... My fastest while on the track is a 1:30.2, but I can shave another second off that I think... but thats max
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Lionus on September 21, 2010, 03:19:11 PM
*nods* it's always funny how upset the kids in their Clios and NSX's get when my Evora not only keeps up with them but also runs away from them..  :funny usually ends up with attempts of ramming and shunting  I think that GT should have age limit of 18.. just to keep the pre-pubescent FnF-brats out of the online races, ruining the experience..
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Villain on September 21, 2010, 03:22:26 PM
That's a little judgemental, don't you think?
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Lionus on September 21, 2010, 03:43:36 PM
if you would have had as many online races being ruined by brats who can't drive as I have, not to mention if you would had received as many rather colorfully written messages after the race about my driving when I was simply sticking to the racing line and attempted passing in safe spots and when I was faster than the car in front, just to be shunted and rammed and blocked.. No, it's not judgemental. Thank god that GT5 has private lobbies and such.

*cough* I'm 17 and I've been in GT since I was 6... *cough*

and I have ten years on top of you and I started with GT1 as well.. I skipped the various demos before GT4 though..
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: ECGadget on September 21, 2010, 04:24:23 PM
how you got 10 years on top of me? I've been playing since '99, and GT1 came out '97 if I'm correct... though I'm not a silly racer... I race according to rules... including the white line rule most people ignore, which drives me crazy
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5

Well, in Kaz's words... didn't he say that the Standard cars are from previous GT games... not just GT4...
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: King Class Scout on September 21, 2010, 04:52:45 PM
Villian: the reason lionus states a minimum of 18 to play is because Prologue has a bad case of "punters" that would annoy the living crap out of everybody.  how do you think I got here?  I met lionus through the regular gran turismo forums, and he introduced me to BC.

i'm one of the few NOT looking foreward to the licence tests.  damn perfectionist settings *grumblegrumble* i just wanna play with cars.

*Has 4 garages full, plus one foll of Tourist Trophy bikes*

I just checked with the GT site itself.  the Kubelwagen is the WW2 original.  the other two are a Microbus (to us yanks, that is), and the amphibious version of the Kubel, the Schwimmwagen

GT2's?  only if they weren't GT4 carryovers.  3 carried over a couple 2's, 4 carried over a lot of 2's, but not all.  if some 2's that weren't carried over (such as the Subaru Alcyone and Pleos, selvo/Cervo mode, etc), THEN i'd be interested.

Hmmmm...GT5...anyone know if they're included the DeLorean DMC-12? :P
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Meteorafallen on October 14, 2010, 10:27:43 PM
I read that they delayed It because It still wasn't done... which Is just ridiculous. As much as I want GT5 to come out, It's hard to keep excited for a game that has been delayed so many times. And apparently GT6 Is already In production and will be released on the Playstation 4 In 2019.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Lionus on October 15, 2010, 12:26:49 AM
Actually, it was done.. Sony just wanted PD to imply the new 3.50 software of PS3 on GT5 that was still using 3.41.. which would had made it vulnerable for piratism.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: King Class Scout on October 15, 2010, 07:39:13 AM
Shadowknight: The DeLorean is included in GT4 as a tough to obtain S2 refit with a bigger flat 6.  unfortunately, it's classed with the likes of March/Mirca, Polo,Lupo, etc subcompact "Cup Cars" when used in races.

Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Lionus on October 30, 2010, 04:45:31 PM
Meh.. Fun lies in odd cars, and making them fast is often more rewarding than tweaking a car that is already phenomenally fast.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: King Class Scout on October 30, 2010, 04:52:04 PM
that's for us car guys that like the oddball ones.  most of the noobs and purists will only run the supercars.  don't forget, a lot of guys don't bother tuning the cars, they just buy the hottest one to run (and can't afford anything else)
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Meteorafallen on October 31, 2010, 03:58:13 AM
I tune the cars, but sometimes I like to run them stock as well, In a game like Gran Turismo the cars are so identical to their real world counterparts that sometimes throwing the 3rd stage turbo or NA tuning kit on them that It can throw off the balance of the car.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Lionus on October 31, 2010, 04:10:18 AM
Ha! I guess that's why MFT was so successful GT4 tuning garage.. we added power, but never sacrificed the balance, even if it meant that the car was slower..

he's not kidding, Mustang.  they took five years getting everything JUST right (much to the utter frustration of us Gear and Petrol heads), and incorporated ideas from those of us at GTPlanet who yarped the loudest.  I look foreward to seeing if there's a credits thank you for GTPlanet members that I recognise (wishfull thinking would be seeing MY username in there)

I know, it was a tongue-in-cheek joke that as good as GT5 looks, GT6 will probably make you think you're driving the actual car. :P

This game will probably be the closest I'll ever get to driving a DeLorean.  Yes, yes, I know, it's not even close to being the best car in the game.  I don't care.  I'm a child of the 1980's, the DMC-12 is always going to be my dream car.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5

Shadow, that's not THE delorian.  it's DMC's "refit" version with a more powerfull engine (Porsche sized, i believe) it handled well and was a lot faster than expected in GT4, I hope it does well in GT5.

meanwhile, I did manage to get a non-reserve copy (and spent Turkey Day playing, as we didn't bother this year).  no-one had showed up at the Game Stop to pick up their reserves, so I bet they're all being saved for Christmas.

Then, it's probably John Z. DeLorean's original plan for the DMC-12.  The original stats for the car would've been far faster had they not had to reduce the horsepower to comply with emission regulations of the time. :P  I wish I had money, I can't even afford to rent it.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: King Class Scout on November 27, 2010, 08:31:47 AM
it won't do you any good to rent.  GT5 has to be treated like a full-on PC game.  permanent.

Speaking of SLS I think they overpowered it just a tad... I was doing split-screen with a friend, I was the MP4-12C and although I was mauling him on corner entry, despite my Macca's significantly better power-to-weight ratio and superior weight distribution I was getting flayed on the straights and in corner exit by that stupid fat Merc and it's stupid fat torque!

The SLS closer to the V12 Vantage that the MP4 or 458.

SLS also has more balanced handling and 7-speed tranny.. and the sound.. oh, the sound.. still makes me giddy.

oh, and if anyone wishes to try racing with me, GTP_Leonidae_MFT is the tag.

that's why we call the AI driver in older versions "b-Spec Bob".  believe me, he's worse in 4 till you get him trained up right.  and that's with the old "stuck like superglue to the racing line" AI that caused so much aggrivation in 4 (the AI would punt or sideswipe you off the track just to stay on the racing line!)

I worked hard and lost 20kg in progress of getting that machine. Game needed a lot of patience because it was delayed,.. delayed.. and delayed some more. It'll take a small army to pry it from my dead, cold hands after a fierce battle to the bitter end.  :P

205 T16 Evolution II is an absolute hoot to drive for a Group B beast. Want to accelerate sideways out of turn? Apply throttle. Want to slow down and turn in sideways? Apply brakes, then throttle. Steering is there just for calming down these events.. Not bad for a Peugeot, back then the little lion really was flying.

I have a question... how do you use home garage cars in arcade mode? Y'know like EVERY OTHER GT game has been able to do?  :banghead:
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: King Class Scout on January 21, 2011, 04:06:05 PM
"fave" the specific cars you want to use for arcade mode from GT mode.  they have their own tab.  you can get your custom tracks added, too

edit: ALMOST every other GT.  4's home garage cars could only be used in 2p and probably LAN.

Yeah, but like, I was hoping it was like GT4, when you buy a car and it isnt unlocked, the stock one will be unlocked for you.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: King Class Scout on January 22, 2011, 12:28:39 PM
from the look of things, only the "premium" cars are allready unlocked, but get added to as you progress.  it's the "normal" models that can only be added with faves
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: ECGadget on January 23, 2011, 05:17:14 AM
Right okay... so out of the 1031 cars, we can only use... 250ish in arcade mode, +100 of our own.
Man, I am really disappointed with GT5. I mean, it has some great features. But to me... it seems only half done.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: King Class Scout on January 23, 2011, 08:37:24 AM
dude, it IS half done.  we waited over 5 YEARS for them to slap all this basic version together.  most of the trouble is getting the cars put together and even cleared for copyright.  it's even harder to find an INTACT version of some cars to scan in.  the old hands from GT2 that some of us love can't be found nowadays, cause they're now being sported as a single fender of any other car, or are orbiting the earth as part of a sattelite or the ISS right now.  a lot of the collectables never move and wouldn't be scanned in because they're worth a fortune and you can't replace anything if something breaks from old age (they physically run the cars before scanning them in to get everything right)

GT4 had so much extra because they just ported over most of the GT3 stock, THEN went and did the scratch cars

and it's the cars themselves that are the time consuming part.  think about how long it takes for the modders here to crank out ONE ship.  i bet there's more polys in one WHEEL on those than there is in baz's JJ fleet.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: ECGadget on January 23, 2011, 11:03:59 AM
Hmmm... fair point. Though I'm not complaining... I do love the game! I mean if I didn't like it, I not be playing it LOL
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Shadowknight1 on January 25, 2011, 12:17:52 AM
To answer an earlier question I asked, I would be able to buy a DMC-12 in the used car dealership...for over $500,000.  Geez, not even a brand new one from DMC costs that much.  Hell, getting a brand new one and then modding it to be like the time machine in Back to the Future wouldn't cost that much. lol
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: King Class Scout on January 25, 2011, 08:24:45 AM
only an 81 survivor would technically cost that much, and then only if you got the ORIGINAL BTF modded version (AKA the Hero Car from back to the Future, signed by the cast, no less).  thing is, according to the little bit of GT4 paperwork (go ahead and read up on the cars, occasionally. i'm one of the few people who asked for the history paperwork back), the ones you won in 4, and that were ported to 5, are tunerversions.  they replaced the bad hydraulics and the underpowered flat with something from (by the feel of it) Porsche.  that's why they're "s2"

I suck at racing, so I can't get the stupid money, and odds are, by the time I do, the DMC won't be in the shop, or conversely by the time the DMC shows up in the shop, I won't have the money.  I wish I could just cheat. :banghead:
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: King Class Scout on February 05, 2011, 12:44:03 PM
just saw this.

someone's managed to crack a PS3's save state to play with.

one of the reasons a lot of the old school "hacking" isn't going on anymore is because people are no longer seeing a "need" for things like Cheat devices.  todays players can whup a game in five minutes, then they'll yawn and throw it over their shoulder, asking for something harder.  those of us who grew up on "nintendo hard" level games are the ones that usually need the help.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Shadowknight1 on February 05, 2011, 05:34:08 PM
I think my favorite(sarcasm) thing is that any games with cheats, upon using said cheats you can no longer save that game.

I just like being able to drive something other than little piddly cars.  And I'd like a good variety for multiplayer.  That's what I liked about Blur.  Good selection of cars that in multiplayer are all already unlocked.  That's why I'd like a save for.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: King Class Scout on February 05, 2011, 07:15:24 PM
some of the MODERN games, yes.  it "corrupts" the save.  but stuff from the beginning of the PS2 era and back can be played with.

intercity: all you have to do is put the disk in...it downloads and installs the patch before letting you do anything.

Shadowknight: that's because Polyphony is slowly adding things as well as filling in holes.  people had been screaming for GT5 for so long, they got the basics together, and released the main program.

some of the rumors concerning the crash of PSN have come out.

apparently, the system went down due to a "denial of Service" attack on sony by an "anti-anti piracy" gang called, ineviably "Anonymus, Inc" in revenge for their persecution of the guy that tried to hack his way into the PS3's hardware and software.  this all went too far, and straight into theivery.  I bet real theives took advantage of the anti-anti piracy group :P

an Audi R8 and a Ford Focus? not bad looking, but the focus is essentially a suped up rolling matchbox, and an R8... well i really cant rip on that car.

personally my favorites are a 67' GT500, and a Pagandi Zonda R...
wait.... im still stuck on NFS:S

id hate to tell you guys, ive played BOTH GT and NFS:S2, sorry.... NFS:S2 is... well an orgasm on a CD, not as many cars mind you, but..... WOW. im IMPRESSED with EA for once in what.... 10 Years?
not to take the merits form GT, as i ONLY scratched the surface with its entirety, but i still was drawn more toward NFS:S2.

not to say i wouldnt eventually own both... after i get a new system... (mine died)

- WARNING - RANT BELOW
I wish PD didn't spend so much time on shittastical timewasters like the Prologue and the GTbyCitroen etc. etc.

Then they could've made a polished game and maybe even cleaned up the menus and made it so you didn't have to get another coffee.

The way I see it:

Forza 3 is superior in:
+Damage
+Tire physics
+Cars (less of them but + Porsche and all 500+ of them are finished products rather than 200/1000...this one could be personal preference)
+Menus, load times and Interface
+Tuning
+Car sounds
+Environment graphics
+Most car graphics
+Plays better with a controller

GT5 is superior in:
+Car physics
+Driver aid customization (Skid recovery force is slightly less bullshit compared to autobrake in Forza...not that I use either :D)
+In-game music
+Tracks (Made-up tracks are superior as is the Nordschleife compared to Forza plus a wider selection)
+Online play
+Premium car graphics
+Plays better with a wheel

When my bro was (back) off to college this summer for workstudy and asked for one of my consoles to keep him company...the PS3 (and GT5) was the one to go.

I might be rather a prick right now as I have the good fortune to have both consoles...with some of the people here having lost access to one...

Anyway Forza 4 is going to leave GT5 in the dust...and it'll be First Contact with the Vulcans by the time GT6 is released

now, now, don't start a forza vs GT in here.

and you know why it's not completely polished, yet.  fans only wait so long before they start griping.  btw, some of us ONLY have controllers to play with.

Kay...sorry man now I feel bad I posted...no offense meant!

6 years is quite enough time...a lot of which was wasted, I s'pose, that's beside the point.

Anyway I still love Gran Turismo but my fondest memories are with GT2 & 3 (which I still play quite often!).

To add the the discussion of this forum, I've been having a really hard time deciding which le Mans car to buy in GT5. Votes and advice would be appreciated!

no, it's KY's obsession with detail that takes so long.  there weren't many cars added after Prologue, and we're STILL waiting for DLC.  a lot of them are rehashes of the GT4 cars and direct ports of GT5P's.  throw in the fact that he ADDED details like damage, working windshield/windscreen wipers, parking lights, high beams, WORKING backup lights, full interiors, customizable racing suits, fully articulated characters, day night tansitions, a cutomizable track maker...the man has put uber effort into actually LISTENING to the players, and regularly visits the GTPlanet forums of which Lionus and I are both members (and I've been there since 2005).  the only thing he really hasn't taken up is customizable race liveries.  I even think I got MY point across, as I kept harping on the point of including info on the cars a la GT2 (which had been removed from GT4).

as for LeMans cars?  well, I rarely run them even in GT4.  I play with Kei cars.

You're obviously a lot more experienced that I am man (and I mean that sincerely! I'm really sorry if I offended you)...but I guess we'll agree to disagree. I do agree some of the detail is phenomenal, like the cockpits of  but there are frayed edges like the R8 5.2's engine bay actually having the engine of the 4.4 and the 2-dimensional trees and generally uninspiring environments in tracks like Deep Forest and the 'Ring, not to mention the GT4 rehashes.

How come Turn 10 can release a game in two years, and a year later have 10 DLC packs of 10 cars each...with all the cars 95% as high-quality as the Premiums in GT...and PD can't?

Answer: Sony.

It can't be all KY's obsession to detail.

Damn corporate.

Lionus, rotaries are balls, but I couldn't resist my favorite car ever: McLaren F1 GTR.

Meh, I've decided not to care until they remake all of the standard cars.  I'm sorry, but for as long as the game was in development, you'd think they'd have done more than just port tons of cars from GT4...

Whoop-tee-do.  That doesn't change the fact that the standard cars look like crap compared to the premium cars.

remember, shadow, it allready took 5 years for what even KY thinks isn't enough to come out because the rabid fans waited long enough.  if weda let kaz get all his little details in, 12/12/12 would have arrived and the point would be moot...or GT5 would be classified with Duke Nukem Forever (pre finish) as "vaporware".
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Shadowknight1 on October 06, 2011, 02:05:03 AM
All I'm saying is they might've decided to go with quality over quantity.  I mean, some cars in there aren't very good, and some of them don't even have the cool factor to keep them worth having.

12/12/12?
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: King Class Scout on October 06, 2011, 07:28:51 AM
1. I think you know most cars were probably ported straight from GT4 and Prologue to save time.
2. it never WAS about a cool factor with Gran Turismo.  if it was, GT would probably have flopped despite its realistic style physics.  it's about the cars, including the daily drivers and city cars, the performance bits are a bonus
3. 12/12/12 is the latest "end of the world" date.  and since this one wasn't made by Europeans, but by Meso-americans, it's being taken seriously.

If you're referring to the end of the Mayan calendar, that's actually NOT being taken seriously.  It is simply the end of their calendar. :roll

you don't live with religious people that see the apocalypse in everything that's going on, like riots, protests, the economic crash, etc.

GT5 is like bridge commander itself, except is us players that are actually doing the work.  Kaz wants everything just so, like George Lucas and his constant editing of the Star Wars trilogies.

Get rid of the Porsche wing, add a stage 2 turbo, it's got barely any lag, and more power than with stage 3. Top speed of mine: 147MPH :P 0-60, 9.44s

yeah but with Stag II turbo it has ridiculous powerband and needs silly gearing.. I'll keep my high RPM power, thank you. And the wing stays.  :funny
