I've posted already pictures and info on the facebook public sovereign001 textures group. But for you new ones, or non facebookers, here is a nice update!

For just textures, these are pretty damn good. :)
-
Holy s**t, is this a game anymore?
-
naah just took some screencaps from the star trek shows and posted it here :D
no no , just kidding..
I redid nano fx atmosphere gfx. The star destroyer pic/ venture pic are an example of it. THe ugly clouds in the defiant one are gone now!
-
Very nice! Look forward to this!
-
Those look very impressive. THought about redoing the Sol system while you're at it? Sure, Earth has be retextured dozens of times over, but some of those planets could benefit from some redoing. Saturn, for example.
-
Already done :D
-
Love the nod to A1(final Borg mission) in the second pic. It looks like you took a texture from a Borg ship/station and used it as the surface texture thats cool.
-
Gooooooood! I am so looking forward to this! When this is released, I will be less embarrassed to film planet scenes!
Sov, you get a cookie! :yay:
-
thanks pinkskin :D
@lmm0896gf, it was meant as an easter egg, but i thought, lets show it to the crowd! You need to search for it, as there is only one planet that has it!
I made lot's of borg hull's pasted to getter, smoothen it, and used it.
Remember people, these aren't 512x512 pixels planets, or 2048pixels big planets,
these are 4096x2048 pixel big planets!
New badge of pics!
these used the old nano fx atmosphere gfx, which was disturbing imo. Made new ones too (look at the venture picture above)
-
I saw a sneak peak of these in the PotD's too bad they're too big for my antique graphics card, planet or no planet.

What graphics card do you have.
BTW Sov, what ship is that in the second of the new pics?
-
My question is, how good is the resolution when you are in a low orbit around the planet?
-
@king scout
it's the premonition
@server and enforcer
they look very good! The pics taken, are done by going into orbit and using the editor. No worries, they look better than the old ones :p
-
drool soaked cookie for you Sov! Loving the work you're doing and can't wait to see it get released!
-
thx mate!
-
why not post a screenshot of a ship in low orbit? so serverandenforcer (and others) can see how it looks?
-
picture called new2 is in low orbit(if i moved, the shields came up).
But i'll make another one ;)
-
aaah i see - looks pretty damn good to me! :)
-
@king scout
it's the premonition
whatchoo takin bout, Willis?
Moed: i think the above was meant for you. and the graphics card is the stocker that came with the machine. I've allready updated the thing, and it still gags over 2048's :P
-
I've got a few spare graphic cards laying around that I could send you but first I'd like to know exactly what graphic card you have so I can see if what I have lying around is even older than what you have.

Excellent work. Thread for this is good.

Intel 82945G...and I think it's integrated.
-
Sssh, no graphic cards to be discussed here, only planets and chicks..
Took some new pictures. These are at 43km and even 28!(they are moons)
Enjoy! (these are with my new nano fx atmosphere gfx)
-
Cookie... :D
-
Intel 82945G...and I think it's integrated.
PM me your contact info if you'd like... address etc. I'll see what I can do.
-
thx for the cookie!
-
*fires a cookiepedo* :D
-
Hehe, love pedo's euh i mean cookies!
Status of the planets at 85 procent...
Few planets are needed to redo.
And i don't like earth. It's too blank(sea)
-
When someone said close range images, i think they meant how blurry it gets when you're point blank range like this ;)
~Jb
-
These new screenshots of yours' are amazing. From where I see it, the quality is just mind boggling. Well done and keep up this fantastic work! Lovin that Supplies picture ;)
-

~Jb
Yep :D
-
Well, how much further can you go even when your shields are lighten up because of the atmosphere?
-
Well, how much further can you go even when your shields are lighten up because of the atmosphere?
i think it's until you crash into the planet?? Just try it :P Thats the only way to find out ;)
~Jb
-
So i did.. Lol, i crashed almost everytime in the planet. Took some pictures.
The pointblank ones are when you are literally in the planet. You never come this close (past the shieldglow etc).
The pointblank further pictures are beyond the standard orbit, (standard orbit perhaps 30km, this is more 10km, again, you never come this close to a planet)
enjoy!
-
I've finished earth!
-
dude, awesome planets :eek Cookie
I can calmly f*ck'n'delete my HQ planets out of my PC and replace them with yours :yay: More than awesome ;)
-
I've finished earth!
I shall tell you as i have been told myself,
With Earth you want the the planet to look like it has an atmosphere so it needs to be a tint of blue instead of seeing the land as green as green can be :P ......Thats if you want it to be realistic
I've attached 2 images from the Hi resolution (8192 x 4096) Earth i've done for the NanoFX model viewer, and you should see what i mean. 1st is without tint of blue, 2nd with. As i said the 2nd is more realistic.
By the way love all you planets, any chance of a tutorial of how to make the textures..i have my own way but it tends not to work so well. :D
-
I like your first one to be honest.
Well, it's not difficult but you need patience with this kind of job. First of all, you need to find 4096x2048 or bigger textures (google maps or just google images) for the planets. Finding this for mars, or jupiter is no problem. But for the other 150+planets, well that's a different story. When you have it, it's not just copy and paste, because the texture fits around the sphere(planet) and if the two textures aren't the same, well the "zipper" won't close properly, and you have big visible line (of the texture hitting each other). So you need to make sure that they fit properly. If you've done that step, great! Start doing it with 149+planets :P But you need to make sure, that there is a nice variety of planets. (you got to find another huge batch of big filesized textures). So, you are quite busy with finding them, changing them(different colors) or cloning ugly parts away or adding parts. So i've done that part. But a few planets are heavily in the loading part, so you need to change those to.
As you can see, it looks easy, but it takes a lot of time. Also the nano fx atmosphere gfx is a huge bummer on the planets, so i redone those textures as wel.
-
oh I SOOOOO want some of those ship textures too...
-
Lol those ship textures are available on bcfiles!
Some new shots!
-
okay I need a new card then...beautiful new shots!
-
Checked the sizes.. they are quite big .. 30mb? mmh strange..
-
With Mars and Venus, you should make them look terraformed (or at least as alternate textures).
Since the links aren't working, I just uploaded the images as attachments.
-
there's already a terraformed mars at BC files. Venus, however...

But the terraformed Mars is 8 years old already. A newer one is needed.

I quite like both a lot!
-
Judge king, i don't see your pictures..
-
There I've uploaded them as attachments to my previous post.
-
Well i've seen them now. They look like earth some how. But don't take this wrong, but if i do this, i can make almost every planet "terraformed". I've tried to keep the sol system as it is, on this present day.
If i start changing venus, i can even start with mars and other planets.
-
Hey Sov001 this guy has a tutorial on how to make planet textures for GIMP.
I think it could be easily adapted for the 3D concept by losing the last couple of steps
http://mygimptutorial.com/the-ultimate-gimp-planet-tutorial
He shows you how to first make and Earth like Planet with Gimp which is Photoshop derivative but also moons and gas planets.
This way you could make your textures how ever big you want and all you really need is large Rock pictures for the Earth style planets.
-
I've read it. It's pure gimp. But it's more for wallpapers. Not really for the textures for a game. Got all the textures i need already. But the link gave me another link, called cg textures. Checking it out now!

yeee thats what i use i've managed to create some good textures using CG textures, for both wallpaper and ingame.
When you get used to layering the textures you get some good results:

http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae43/Mr_E7/nFX_mview_2010-08-23213437.png
thats if you want to do any more planets after the 150+ that you've already done :P
-
That second picture with the borg cubes.. Is it really in bc? or just a modelviewer? Because the shiny planet with the aura around it.. I don't think bc is able to do this, only nano fx ge.
-
If you notice the links, it has "nFX_mview" in them...
-
no offence , but what does that mean? that it is nano fx ge?
-

*sighs* yes...

Those are definitely NFX GE pics. nFX_mview = NanoFX Model Viewer.

Which is why I suggested that they at the very least be alternate textures for Mars and Venus.
-
You know what would be interesting? A futuristic Earth. Earth should look A LOT different in Star Trek's time compared to ours based on just a few things mentioned in the shows...
The Mojave Desert has been terraformed and is a luscious Green with a large city
Los Angeles crumpled into the sea creating the largest man made coral reef
There is a Grand Canyon sized gash that's ripped though Florida, into Cuba and down to South America
I'm sure there are more things but that's just off the top of my head. The Moon has cities on it too, which have never been seen.
Just an idea :D

Were the (beginnings of) the lunar colonies not glimpsed in the opening sequence of Enterprise?
*Trekcore.com*
Yes, one is just about visible:
[EDITED] The Mirror Darkly opening sequence gives a clearer view of it. It would appear to be Tycho City, in the crater Tycho, named for Tycho Brahe, who was a human.
Granted, that gives us very little indication of how the place might look in the 24th century, but it's (literally) a start. Anyway, we have the account of that red squad cadet chick with the wierd accent from the Valiant. Atmosphere dome and so forth. Artistic licence.
Needless to say, cool idea.

Luna Cities:
Copernicus City
New Berlin
Tycho City
Riker even mentions a Lake Armstrong. They never said the Moon was terraformed but with Lakes and stuff, you have to wonder what they did. Massive Domes? Maybe.
-
Attached the image linked above.
The "prime universe" intro of this scene ofcourse doesn't have the photon torpedoes being launched against the city :P
(added the original scene for comparison)

That's early 22nd Century still. By the 24th Century there are 50 Million people living on the moon. Of course again that city could be built underground. I suppose if they eventually used domes, they wouldn't want huge skyscrapers. They might have a few small surface buildings but most of the settlement is below ground.
-
Either way, it's up to the maker of this mod if he wants the planets to be like they are today or like they are in 24th Century Trek.
-
Thx shadowknight. I started to feel obliged to make them.. I will see that i can make it..
-

Believe me when I say there are a few people who feel you are...don't listen to them! It's your mod, and you're doing a great job so far :)
Keep it up!
-
Thx eclipse, but to the people that want the cities on the moon or the terraformed mars. I'll start doing some early alpha on the moon. I promise!
-
An underground lake would make sense.
A Domedlake would make little sense
The moon in the 24th century is clearly not terra formed though. I think Rikers comment was...off the wall, just for the sake of future posing..."look what we got" they never were going to show that.
-
I got to feel that we were going offtopic. Sovereign, make them exactly how YOU want to. If any of us feel strongly enough about any of this, we are completely free to try to make our own. For the record, I was just taking part in the discussion, hence feeling offtopic.
However, since interest has been shown by the topic starter, I will just throw my two cents in.
Riker wasn't posing to Cochrane. He was genuinely caught off guard by the appearance of the moon. I know it's somewhat inconsistent with the appearance of the moon in other episodes, but to suggest that these features are underground and not noticeable completely belies the nature of Riker's comment.
The cadet girl on the valiant mentioned atmosphere domes, if I'm not mistaken. I'd put a bit of infrastructure and surface buildings around the domes in broken concentric rings, but nothing so noticeable that a casual glance would draw the eye instantly. Silver, grey and blue glints, mostly. Tycho City obviously fills the crater Tycho, New Berlin is up to you, as is lake Armstrong, perhaps a large crater in the Sea Of Tranquility. I'd put them all on the Earth-facing side (who doesn't want to see Earth?), and perhaps a tiny observatory or station on the far side.
I love the concept of a low-grav lake. Imagine the waves!
-
I'm making this thread as my "base of operations".. for other mods ;)
After watching Wiley doing his modeling, i wanna start doing it also ;)
I've drawn some basic sketches of a federation science ship post-nemesis area.
For the moment, its just basic pencil stuff and i'm gonna scan it in..// after you guys say," mmh nice or crap", I'm gonna redraw it and after that in illustrator or photoshop(which one is the best).
Meanwhile in my free time, I'll be following modeling tutorials and gonna start on the ship.
The scanned picture will follow in a few hours ;) I've only done the ventral side guys. Dorsal side will follow and more details on the ship as wel.
-
Hey... The Emmert class... *Lightbulb!* I do like the work that's being put on display here, mate, keep it up!
-
the emmert? Lol, are you posting in the right thread?
So here is the fast fast pencil sketch.. To made it easier to understand, i quickly scanned it in photoshop cut out the part and voila.
Note this is just to make it easier to understand.. I did this on my macbook, so no mouse at all, only the mousepad..
A decent version will follow
The ship is a bit based on a ship i saw in the first trailer of star trek online..
-
I am, it's the ship featured in the screencap of the ENT intro posted further up. It just gave me an idea and reminded me that I've always liked that ship. I dig your design though, always eager to see people shake up the conventional design theory!
-
Hehe, now i'm wondering, which program would be the best to draw this ship..
