Well my old GeForce 8800GTS is starting to crap out i had to set my monitor to a lower res this morning and now it doesnt recongize the monitor model. Im running Asus P5N-T Deluxe and need some suggestions on what card to get i would like to stick to NVidia any help and suggestions are welcomed
-
LOL get the 480 LOL (though I doubt ya want to shell out that amount of cash) so either the 460 or 470.
-
Well due to the store i deal with.he didnt have the nivida i wanted so i ended up building my system with
a ATI..SAPPHIRE RADEON HD 5750. (1GB GDDR5)
-
but will GDDR5 work with my mobo?

GDDR5 is part of the GFX card... the motherboard shouldn't care...
-
I'd get an ATI 5850 or similar. Those new Nvidia chips are just too hot and power hungry for the performance advantage.
And as for the GDDR5, it is part of the gfx card and not the mobo. The mobo has zilch contact with the graphics ram. Everything going to that ram via the mobo goes through the GPU so the mobo's speed (or lack there of) will have no effect.
Neb speaks truth!

this is going to be my first time swapping out vid cards on a win 7 PC will the OS automatically detect it and remove the old drivers or will i have to remove the drivers myself prior to install of the new vid card?
-
eh if it's nvidia the drivers should be the same... though you may just want to install new drivers afterwards.
-
ya should pick it up right away....but then do the search like Neb said for the newest drivers and just follow install ...its easy..
good luck...
and ya i should have stuck with nividia.....
and as a history lessen I miss my 16mg Elsa 3d card from my 1st computer...sniff sniff..those were the days...

but unfortunatly it has to be put on the backburner ftm as the speedometer on my Sierra is crapping out and i really need to mind my speed in my area (Largo FL) they even have a law saying u have to make a complete stop on a green light to make a right turn
-

That's a complete crock of crap....They need to repeal that law or I won't go anywhere near there (my in-laws live near Leesburg)

Radeon HD6650  It will be about 1.7TFlops and the prize wouldn't be big.

Get the 1024 MB version. The GTX 768 not only has less memory but also lower pixel fillrate and bandwidth. Prices should go down now the new 6870/6850 cards have been released.

There is no such thing as the GTX 768....
-
I meant GTX 460 with 768 MB.
-
5970 is your card :)
-
ATI HD GFX Cards are better. NVidia cards just sucks. its drivers never come updated and it?s control panel takes an eternity to open.
-
My nVidia control panel takes around 2 seconds to open; maybe it's just you?
Just a note, my nVidia GT220 somehow manages to run EVE online at max graphics (Minus HDR) at 60FPS and never slows down/overheats. How is this possible?

A good computer perhaps?
-
I'd say my PC is "decent", but a 512MB GT220 shouldn't be able to play that kind of graphics quality for more than a minute or so before slowing down.
Note, this is EVE online, all settings to max, aside from bloom, HDR and AA (I use 4x for that)
-
yeah it's not just your gfx card... it's the whole deal.
and what you said about Bloom, HDR, and AA is actually a big deal.
-
Hm, it was on my old PC, reduced FPS from ~60 to ~20.
Nevermind then. [/HijackThread]

it may be a bit late but a NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 seems a good choice, it runs on the old PCI interface, but from what ive seen and heard it should last around 6 years, the only drawback is that it only has 256MB of onboard ram, but its still a decent little card, if your mobo doesnt have an old PCI slot, then go for a more up to date one. and BTW, if getting the FX 5200, make sure you PCI slot loos like the one in the image attached.
