Post by: Lionus on July 27, 2011, 09:01:21 AM
I've continued playing this again.. Anyone else out there, mining, leading corporation or just being an utter pirate? :D

As someone who has one character for each of the (playable) empires I think I can safely say the order of Aesthetics is Amarr (GOLD!), Minmatar (SCRAP!), then Caldari (ASYMETRICAL!) and Gallente (Fat) in joint 3rd.

I love my Apocalypse! PEWPEW!

*opens a can pf wprms* Shield or armor tank?

Both have their advantages, shield boosters provide instant relief, armour reps take a full cycle before they do anything. HOWEVER, this doesn't take into account passive, buffer or regen tanks.

For PvP, armour buffer tanking is prefferred, for PvE, you play with your skills, ship bonuses and resistances. For a ships BASE resists, you want Shield for Kinetic and Explosive, Armour for EM and Thermal; though I've managed to omni-tank a large group of Rogue Drones before now.

With shield tanking, you also know EXACTLY when to get out, when your shields hit 30%, but that's also a hint as to when to activate your armour reps too.

Indeed.  Now, what about those pesky jammers and webbers?

Pre-Incarna: DAMN GURISTAS! LET ME LOCK YOU!

Post-Incarna: Dayum Guristas, U WEAK!

I remember a mission, where I warped in and got stuck between an acceleration gate and an asteroid, was webbed, scrambled, outnumbered and only JUST powerful enough to not be outgunned.

I went to 40% hull before I pewpewed enough of them for my armour reppers to catch up to the DPS. WAS HELL. This was in an Apocalypse too.

Nice, I remember when I got my first Battleship, then I started obsessing over getting a Marauder (Paladin). Still not there.

In the immortal words of Admiral Akbar: "IT'S A TRAP!"

moment later, after fetching a mission item from a warehouse that can be seen ahead, a group of pirate battleships, cruisers and frigates/fighters jump in.. and promptly get grinded to space dust.

Sadly they won't let you continue a character already in existence, which Aeries has (at least) one.

Shame, that. I love making millions in my Minmatar ships.

Well CCP are bringing back Ship Spinning!

You will have the ability to 'board' or 'leave' your ship, and the system will remember what state you were in just prior to your last undock, and when you dock (anywhere) it will put you in that state automagically.

tl;dr: CCP are making Captains Quarters work the way everyone thought they would to begin with.

So, that's the reason for the longer than usual downtime tomorrow?

Well, the winter expansion for EVE Online is almost here; and the name seems to be "Crucible".

I'll leave this here, states a lot of features for the expansion (as well as certain things which are in testing, but not DEFINITE for this expansion) (http://throughnewbeyes.wordpress.com/2011/11/09/winter-expansion-crucible-feature-list/)

I'll also post CCPs dev videos.

There will probably be more to come! (GOD I love this game)

This new update is epic!  :dance everything looks better, sounds better and now there's kickass tier III battlecruisers!

Oh, and this is my Mining Barge at work..

Shame the tier 3 Battlecruisers are even more glass cannon-y than the Gallente Brutix.

I've been having some trouble with Anti-aliasing in Crucible (nVidia Control Panel does nothing to Eve now). But other than that, I'm impressed.

yeah, but they're cheap (less than half of BS price) while packing BS-level DPS in speedy BC hull.. Perfect for PVP!

Yes, the new Battlecruisers are more-or-less Tier 2 Gankers (Destroyers being Tier 1).

so, what do you think of the new destroyers? bit glass cannon-y too, but they pack a fair punch and speed imo.

Gnosis is now available. There's practically no limit what you want to do with it. 6/6/6 slot layout, nice bonuses for turrets, launchers and especially drones. Only downsides are that it is tad slow and has relatively short targeting range.

Personally, I'd recommend active shield tanking and any weapon system you might like, preferably one with good tracking. Largest amount of damage will be dealt by the drones. The ship can do only 144m/s, but it aligns quickly. With my skills it can lock a target at 62km range, at fire all the way to there as well. It's practically Caldari on the defensive traits, and Gallente on the offensive.

Hm.. Couple days more and we'll get fleet battlecruisers. That oughta be fun.. and expensive.  :eek
