no, this isnt bootlegg or anything of that sort, you can get it STRAIGHT FROM STEAM untill September 20th.
i already have downloaded it, it only took about a half hour to get and install, you DO however need to register with steam and download their platform, but whatever... i already had an account to begin with.
this is the FULL game, complete with the acheivements and all the fixins.
so if you DONT have it head over to: http://store.steampowered.com/
search "portal" and it should lead you from there, it WILL say theres a price untill you click on the link for portal, then it will show you the freebie link

Well, that'd be of interest to me if my PC wasn't crap and I didn't already have The Orange Box on PS3. And Portal 2. :P
-
runs smooth as butter on this crappy thing :funny

Wait, so my free gift copy of Portal is now even MORE useless?

Welcome to 6 months ago. :roll
Stop wasting our time by offering Portal for free again, and start using the time to complete Half-Life 2: Episode 3! :bitch:

I still don't understand why Half-Life 2: Episode 1 and 2 aren't Half-Life 3 & 4...maybe I actually need to play them to get it?

(Spoiler Alert)
The Original Half Life takes/took place at the Black Mesa Research Facility in New Mexico, sometime in the late 90s or early 2000s.
Half Life 2 takes place sometime in the late 2010s or early 2020s, and aims at defeating the ocuupation force of the 'Combine' on Earth (Who invaded in the interrim, while Dr Freeman was otherwise indisposed), HL2: Episodes 1, 2 (and 3 if it comes out) are a continuation of this 'storyline', where the reballion is still fighting off the Combine's forces.
Think of it like a film with a miniseries after it.
