After purchasing sins of a solar empire, which blew my mind by the way got me thinking. What do you think is your favourite 4x game, they offer some of the most rich and diverse gameplay a game can offer. Mine has to be sins at the moment, its everything I've ever wanted in a game.
-
Two come in mind: Civilization 4 (haven't got Civ 5 yet though) & Galactic Civilizations II.
-
Starcraft 2 and SOASE: Diplomacy are mine.
-
Starcraft isn't really 4x... I'd have to say Civ IV with its expansions.
-
Age of Empires and got to agree SoaSE, especially diplomacy (love the additional options)
oh and please don't tell me Age of Empires is not 4x game ... you can explore, you can expand, you can exploit (by growing your town larger, building additional outposts etc.) and finally you can exterminate :)
-
I forgot rise of nations, that was pretty good back in the day.
-
Forgive my lack of fluency in this, but what the fel is "4x"?
-
4x = Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate - used to describe certain type of games :) althou I don't agree with some RTS not being count into 4x cathegory

Don't worry, Civ 5 cannot live up to the massive legacy Civ IV left in its wake

couldn't agree more, tried it out for a week or more, got back to civ IV but still think both IV and V cannot stand against civ III, still remember all those hours spent with this game

Civ 4 is a lot more stable than Civ 3 in all aspects and a lot more refined.

I bet it is, it's just that nostalgic factor that makes me like civ III more :D even tho when I was play'n it I had Celeron 400mhz, 256 ram, Nvidia Riva TNT2 and 10 gb hdd :P imagine lag factor :D

I was wicked into both Civ III & Civ IV but my fondest memories lay with the latter. Buying the game and playing my first game on Prince, to get used to it (:D)...a streak where I tried to win 10 games in a row just via culture...my Japanese Earth18Civs games...having this fluke game where the French declared on me 11 times in a row, and I razed one city every war 'till I had burned them all...and of course the LAN battles with my brothers!

My only gripe with civ 3 was the stack of doom.
