So I started doing it on my own. Using Wiley coyote livestream (of the constitution) I'm trying to build my own constitution class.
Please remember, i'm a beginner ;) I will post pictures of the process.
Btw, does anyone know how i can get those shadows of my ship, its very annoying! :funny
-
good start.
If your using max you can add a skylight and then go to the render settings and advanced lighting. turn on light tracer and then render it out
-
Hey Baz, thx for the input. I appreciate it and yes i'm using max 2012 (student version) ;)
-
Bridge, turbolift, sensor dome are done. (did old fashioned sensor dome).
Next -> impulse engines.
-
Welcome Back...I'll be watching Sov 001 :yay:
-
Thx saquist!
-
I build a city for my teacher but the man wanted something in space like the originals (yep he is a fan).
So i showed him the jupiter station of voyager and he wanted something like that.
I tried to build something like the jupiter station but in TOS style.
Still, got some work to do and texturing etc...
-
That actually works well and looks smart. Have you thought about adding some K7 style docking arms?
-
Thank you baz! You mean a pylon with a small shipyard?
-
yeah something like that.
-
Perhaps i will, maybe a small shipyard where a science vessel is able to dock?
-
really looks interesting , goin in right way
-
Thanks, so i worked some more on it and did the textures using the compact material editor. It's not perfect (did it with photoshop and imported them to max). Needed to but a uvm mapping on the saucers and set them to planar etc..
Don't really know how you guys make your textures.. (from scratch or so.. i followed half and half curtis youtube mapping stuff but damn..)
-
If someone is able to learn me how to make easy and nice textures, please do so ;)
Because, i know this is dark and not canon tos style but hey the jupiter station didn't looked all federish like neither ;)
-
Not bad so far, I'll send you my TOS connie textures to disect to get the feel for TOS paint jobs.
I have done tons of research to get the colours as close as possible.
-
Received your files baz. Is there anything i should know before i change them and put them on my saucer(s)? I'm using the compact material editor, nothing else..
-
I only know how to do it in Max.
Make the base material colour to black. Add the *_glow to diffused and and sef-illumination. Go in to the self-illumination menu and change RGB Channel output to Alpha as grey (this will activate the glows). Then add you *_spec map to specular highlights and apply to mesh.
Then your good to go.
-
Oke thx, does this count for every texture you add?
-
yes if it has a glow or spec map
-
Oke,
did an stl check. No errors.
Did a polycount-> 58000. That's way too much! Any help here?
-
480 views...Only people that answered are baz, tiqhud and saquist..
Fantastic guys, really love the interest
-
I'd say it's a good start on your newfound "modelling career". The more modellers, the better. Especially if/when they become good/great modellers :P
As for the apparent "lack" of interest, could have something to do with all the latest game releases such as BF3, MW3, Skyrim etc, keeping alot of people preoccupied.
-
Could be but that's no reason to just skip over someone's thread like it doesn't exist and go bump up another thread. If this has something to do with me and baz about his galaxy(which is now all oke). Then please grow up. This is a free world, we are able to give an opinion.

You are very lucky to have an instructor that lets you build Trek-styled 3D objects. At my school, the only 3D instructor (for classes I have not taken) wants artsy-fartsy 3D modeling, and nothing compared to what we create and post here.
Don't really know how you guys make your textures.. (from scratch or so.. i followed half and half curtis youtube mapping stuff but damn..)
Photoshop. I could do a tutorial. :)
-
Would be great, thanks wiley.
-
Here is a berfore and after I played with the mesh to reduce the poly count.
-
I really like this concept wasn't the TNG Jup station just ambassador saucers stuck together? Still maybe some wheatherd textures would add that extra authenticity.
-
Thx, got a message of my teacher. He was saying that it was gonna be too big to get it working in unity... :help:
-
From 37000 to 26600 polies.
However, i'm not able to do the rgb channel output to alpha as grey... (its greyed out). Also the black material stuff.. where is it? Remember i'm using 3dsmax 2012!
-
I have got it down to 24k.
There were loads of segments that were not needed. also by unifying several elements saved a few as well.
Extrude, insert, bevel and chamfer and great tools to get to know.
-
Damn, 2000 less haha!
yeah, i noticed it too! Hence why i was able to drop from 37 to 26 already.
-
I have sent you the max file so should get it shortly
-
Received it! I'll have a look immediately. Working on the textures as we speak.
Thanks baz!
-
So i'm working on my 26k model for the moment because tomorrow i need to show it at my teacher for unity.
Baz is explaining it to me how to texture the 24k one using the poly selector.
Here is a picture of my station using baz constitution saucer and secundary hull glow/specs textures (they are modified and i have permission of baz).
The background is somewhere from the internetzz..
Still, i believe a setting in my material editor is not yet correct because the hull is too white and i don't see the speculars yet.

Enjoy! (this station will be available perhaps as a christmas gift at bcfiles. :yay: )
PS: a big thank you Baz.
-
Good job guys.
-
Very nice. Cookie for you.
-
First cookie i've received! :P Thx Gmunoz!
Gonna sip it in a nice glass of milk :funny :D
-
How have I missed this, sov finally showing some work :P Looking good lad, just watch the amount of polies being used ;)
Cookie
-
Hehe thanks jb!
I think i'm fine now with the polies ;)
26K is the one i have for now.
-
Sovereign001, that's awesome man! You are learning MAX very fast! I can't wait to try your station at Christmas, mate! With my limited time I hope i'll successfuly make the Proxima TMP textures. Your station will combine i think very well with something even and from TMP :)
-
Hehe thx. They call me "the tony stark" for something :D
Tiqhud is gonna script it. Perhaps add a small blue phaser on it, to scare away some pirates.
-
It needs better phasers than that! Give it someting like Wileys Phase 2 connie I think that would be more apropiate, so its got some bite! =D cookie for such fast work!
-
I don't wanna make it a battlestation, but if its possible i want to give it a technology advantage.
And thx for the cookie!
1. strong shields. I mean we are talking about a research facility where perhaps important stuff is being researched... If this gets into hands of enemies or if the scientist gets kidnapped because a shuttle is able to lower the shield by a single phaser blast..
2. no massive weaponry and explosions.
3. To explain number 2 --> Give it a phaser one or two. But give it a technology so she can make those simple phasers powerful. Like if a ship gets into weaponrange, it shields get down (10 seconds) by a pulse from the station, and the station can hit your hull. This pulse has a recharge time of course...
-
Something like very strong shielding with no photon torpedoes (or several lite mostly for research things), several connie phasers, and strong sensors.
-
Sensors indeed, too strong shields mmmh.. Just like a connie perhaps, but perhaps 10 torpedoes like the outpost in generations had (probes)
-
Two pictures with the new modified aztec spec texture. (baz texture from his tos pack)
Background is from the site: 1337.arts
-
Coming along nicley!
-
I don't think i'm gonna add a lot more.. This is TOS Style we are speaking so no fancy stuff on the hull ;)
-
Looks good enough to be in a Star Trek Remastered episode. :yay:
Nice work so far.
-
Thanks for the compliment captain D ;)
-
About the weaponry, I think she should have just enough weapons to defend against a single ship. It's not a full fledged star base so it shouldn't be able to take on a fleet, but it should have enough weapons to discourage the curious.

Agreed... especially like a rogue Klingon Cmdr. looking for glory....aka trouble, lol.

The original Jupiter Station has been around since atleast the days of Captain Archer and the NX-01. At that time, the station was known to be used for retrofitting starships, including the installation of weapons technology. Would seem a bit dumb to me, for a station to be involved in installing weapons on starships, and not have a few weapons of it's own. I don't see it as unreasonable that the station would continue to have a fair amount of defensive capabilities both in the TOS- and TNG-eras.
-
Darkthunder has a point and i was a bit shocked to hear that the station was already that old. I mean if you watch the station in voyager, the hull doesn't have any resemblance to the old stuff, i believed it was 2350'ish... Could be another jupiter station or an older one..
Also, this is starfleet, i mean how many stations in starfleet were actually meant to have a defense against something and that you hear that its been wiped out by a single ship or so (or a deus ex stuff).
Or could be the station was indeed meant to upgrade weapons of other ships but that doesn't mean it has weapons of its own, there could be ships patrolling it or a few weapon turrets out there.
Also the jupiter station of voyager was a research post, no weapons upgrades. I think braga & co just messed it up again.

I believe a number of ex-military bases are now used for scientific research nowadays. I can easily see Starfleet doing the same with Jupiter Station.
Perhaps Jupiter Station was refited from time to time, like Starships, though by the Voyager era it seems as though it hasn't had a major update for a few decades. For all we know it's only had two 'upgrades' one to TOS standard, and one to 2350's standard.

Well I don't think this is gonna be in the christmas pack. My macbook 13 inch pro just died a few days ago (bootcamp on it) and i lost everything (but got it backed up). Just bought a 15inch macbook pro (jep, the day it died i bought already a new mac) because i got exams coming up this week, works, presentations for companies etc, so i cannot afford it to lose my mac for more than two weeks..
I'm creating the station now in unity to make it work in a game.
-
Solution... Never by an apple :P
-
I have taken this over from sov.
Here is a little retexture work.

Now, that is a Nice station [one can't have to Many] make for good backing IMO :D
-
Damn baz, you did a good job! :yay: Glad to see that you are working on my station again!
-
Think this one is now done.

Do they have spec aztecking?
-
yes they do. Lighting is not my strong suit lol
-
Nice looking foreward to it!
-
Beautiful!
-
I love the windows you did on the upper saucer (the small saucer, command saucer). Could you use those windows on the saucer edges? (instead of them pushed together?) Seems great though! Love to see, that my work is gonna be ingame!
-
As requested I've rejigged the saucer rim windows and thrown in some repair bays as well

Very nice indeed :yay:
Tim
-
Excellent work!
One thing though, I think there are way too many windows now. Tone the amount down a bit and it'll be perfect IMO.

:yay: Love it!

Excellent!
But I still think that the amount of windows should be toned down a bit.
-
Now that is a nice screenshot. A cookie for you. :yay:
-
Excellent!

I agreed with you. First, it was like, ooh it looks too 'plastic' because of this, but ingame its perfect. It really gives the remastered look away and how a research station should look like. Windows for crew quarters, observatories, visitor quarters, etc. I always felt that k7 was really too solid with no windows or so.
Really, i had my doubts, but ingame it looks damn good. Baz did an excellent job! I thank him!
-
Cookie for sov and baz
-
It was my pleasure, did not want to see this go to waste.
I feel that windows are important for two reasons. First they add scale and second theybring something alive that is why there should always be some dark windows either a lab or quaters are not in use.
-
I have pics and il post them soon its just that my internet has committed broadbandicide, this includes a beta report.
Posting with the phone is a bit hit and miss.

If those are supposed to be disused constitution-series saucers, aren't they a bit ginormous in those lovely screencaps?
-
They are based on the appearance of connie saucers, but they aren't the same ;)
