http://www.break.com/index/the-government-wants-to-kill-the-internet-2222109
If this is what the result is - essentially the equivalent of China's "Golden Shield" (aka the "Great Firewall of China")....please tell me this is some kind of sick joke, or that I'm having a freaky nightmare.

Events in the middle east prove how powerful the internet is. It is the voice of the people and any government has the right to be afraid.
-
This is what makes me not want to live on this planet any more. :(
-
i pray this is not allowed.
anymore bullsh1t laws that america passes... and im gonna start a damn riot.
-
ok, whoever came up with that bullsh1t idea can just go screw themselves and fall into a ravine filled with acid... thatts the biggest load of crap ive heard since my school wanted to bann any technology thats not owned by the school, including memory sticks that students own and had work on...

The irony of the "Stop Online Piracy Act", or SOPA is that in Swedish, it literally translates as Garbage :P
-
every fandom is in a panic over this. thing is, I don't think that either the politicians or the guys with the money realize the consequences./ if this passes and is interpreted LITEARALLY, the entire world's economy would collapse. Why? because in the states, everything except Mother nature herself is copyighted, and even then some of mother nature has some copyrights on it!
interpreted literally, this would prevent anything ever copyrighted ever being used anywhere. and everything made in the US since 1927 is copyrighted. hell, even "Happy Birthday to you" is copyrighted. that's why you can't hear it on TV over here :P
if this does pass, it's gonna come back to bite the entire world in the ass!
sorry for the department of redundancy department, there.

Although I dont live in the USA, I'm keeping my eye on how this progresses. I still think "Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal" got it right:

:yeahthat:
ugh.. whoever came up with the idea for this bill needs to be slapped with a lead pipe.

The shouldnt actually be allowed to pass this as NO-ONE actually owns the internet as a whole, they only own a fraction of it, and they CANNOT remove or change anything outside of that owned fraction, so for the US sites with, unfortunatley, .com or .us are the only ones they are allowed by international law to change/remove theoretically, but im sure some political smart ass will find/create a loop hole in this logic....
