Title: BC Files, still worth it?
Post by: sovereign001 on January 05, 2012, 07:21:46 AM
So I think that place is/was like a heaven for us, thousands of mods are located there but since the changes that are done, almost nothing works. I mean, i've been searching for mods over there but almost not a single picture works or if it works and you click on it, you get a missing file... 9/10 times i clicked on something, it didn't worked. I'm not even able to download some stuff of baz or wiley sometimes because of invalid error id etc.

Don't we have a solution for this? I've read that people say that a solution is on the way, but that is going on for almost more than a year.. Can't we upload our files all on gamefront and put a notice (hey, file is able to be downloaded!!) in the bc downloads here?

I know some of you guys say, yeah why not, or its been done already, but not everyone is using it i think..

Just wanted to say something about this.. Its just hateful to see bcfiles going down like this :(

It works just fine, sometimes when I get 'file not found' page or outdated main page I simply hit F5 to refresh, usually 2-3 refreshes makes the site working again but sometimes I have to hit refresh more than 10 times, not that it's big deal, you'll get used to this ;)

Yeah obviously just a single refeash is all you need. Sometimes you need ten lol but its not really that big of a deal.

Good thing I include a download link to my files in the comments section at BC Files. Many of my recent ships have invalid links.

I've found if I refresh it a couple times, the page will come up correctly.

We can't help it if our servers at FileFront are so old, that they often go slower than a tortoise.

I've been working for FileFront for a little over 3 years now as head of HaloFiles, and trust me when I say that the server issuses are not only present on BCFiles and HaloFiles.

It's affecting the whole network, and yes, while the servers still work when hitting refresh half a dozen times, the costs of running and maintainence are high. There are procedures in place to remedy the issues, but Break have to come up with the cash first. My boss, Jeff (n0e) doesn't know any more than any other staff member at this point. I get what you're saying, but you have to understand, that the network staff and forum staff are not IT technicians, but merely, volunteers using their free time to maintain the various communities. The servers are Break IT's job. Trust me when I say that we are constantly pestering them to fix the servers.

All I can say is, please continue to be patient. And workarounds have been put in place wherever you get a noroute issue, and these workarounds are usually found within the file descriptions themselves.
