So anyone still play this?
I found the game a couple days ago along with Chekov's Lost Missions, I'm missing the 5th disc of the base game though
Still fun, and surprisingly It installed without a single problem on my Windows 7 64bit system. I'm not even running it in any form of Compatibility mode.
Only problem is it doesn't detect USB Joysticks, since well it came out before those existed. Same with Klingon Academy as well. I find it kind of hard to play just using the keyboard and mouse.

I played Starfleet Academy for a bit but got bored quickly, still have the big box laying around somewhere. I also have Klingon Academy and I find that the one of the finest Trek games in existence. I use my Xbox controller on it so I don't see why your USB joystick won't work? :idk:
-
Its not detecting my 360 controller either.
Maybe it just doesn't like my USB ports.
They work fine in other games.

Is it patched?
-
I played both... SA was not bad but rudimentary graphics.
KA was awesome but steep learning curve.
BC is the best :yay:

SFA isn't patched, KA is but it doesn't detect them either.
Where could one get SFA patches?

The missions in BC weren't particularly creative though. SFA had more than a few that I just haven't seen repeated since. Stuff like how to deal with a bunch of ships that cause insta-death if you go within weapons range of them. Oh, and you can't just blow them up because they're all carrying their various ambassadors xD
Space hippy klingons anyone?
Here (http://gaming.trekcore.com/starfleetacademy/downloads.html) is a patch for it. Not sure if it's the latest one. Chekovs lost missions has a patch included too btw.

I'd install Chekov's Lost missions, but its telling me I don't have enough Disc Space.
I have 16gb.

That's down to the programming of the game. Remember, back then there weren't any drives bigger than 20GB (and even that was massive) so if it sees a hard drive bigger than a certain size the installer will panic and return a *null* hard disk size.
-
Its only happening in Chekov's Lost Missions though, didn't happen with the base SFA game. Though it said my HD was only 2GB.

Yeah, back then 2GB was pretty much the limit for hard drive partitions so installers were written accordingly. The base SFA installer is probably built to be able to cope with 2GB+ partitions where as CLMs installer just says "Nope".
Btw, have you tried running the installer in compatibility mode? I'd set it to either '95 or '98. Also, have you have any graphical glitches in base SFA? Stuff like the whole screen going black, only to have individual pixels 'uncovered' when you mouse over them.

Oh I had that, I just copied the ddraw file from the Klingon Academy Fix.
Running the Lost Missions installer in compatibility mode worked, thanks.

I wonder if the game could be modded in any appreciable way..

to what end its still limited to DirectX3 and OpenGL1.0. What real end would you achive from a game released in 1997 lol.

I bet you there's a fair amount of people who said the same thing about Bridge Commander. A game released in 2002. Still alive and kicking :)

I'd just like to see what kind of meshes we could put in before the engine croaks
I'd love to see the "netprofit" and "moprofit" multiplayer modes in BC xD
