Hi community
I'm Trax (Taz) I have been making models and stuff for a while. But after watching the new Star Trek movie I have gotten a bug to build a ship. I will start with something small whilst I learn the conversion method for Bridge Commander and I look forward to reading all your comments and feedback.

Small update:
I don't have many good reference images for this model, even after using google, so any links would be great
-
That's looking good. Welcome to the forum.

Looking rather nice so far.
I'd suggest taking into consideration, that "less is more". While Bridge Commander can handle models in excess of 20-40k polygons (perhaps even higher), one has to consider that a model with fewer polygons can still looks "high poly" if done correctly, and textures are utilized effectively. Further, you should consider that some models may be seen on the screen repeatedly, perhaps dozens at once. 10k polygons and 20 ships adds up rather fast :P

Fresh blood is always welcome in the modding community! Especially when modelling a highly unappreciated shuttle.
Here are a couple of refs for you:

That first one is just what i need thanks

the modelling should be relatively easy... I strongly suggest you make it compatible with MLeo's skinning tool, so that it can have multiple registries.
Galileo seems to be a rather overused name :P

I will look into that.
I apologize for the lack of progress, I will have more to show this evening, but I have just finished moving house.

We ALL understand, Real Life issues come 1st

Gentlemen
to say I have suffered difficulty is an understatement, as easy as this basic shutltle may seem, the rear area is a complete pain in the toilet area!!
Regardless of this fact, I have managed some progress:
-
That is quite impressive. It may be a rather simplistic design, but the modelling is top notch. Good job :)

Sorry for the delay, been busy but the mesh is now complete and ready for mapping.
Final POLY count is 1800

We've been needing a Type 6 shuttle since...well, since the days of stock BC. Seriously, I don't think anyone's ever tackled this. Great work.
-
Thank you for your comments, they are very much appreciated. Did not realise there was a lack of detailed shuttles for BC so I may build another shuttle once this is done.

I have had a few hours this evening to finish the UVW maps and start the textures. I have decided to go for a single 2048 map. I will start by matching all the livery with the studio reference then I will add dirt and detail myself.

Looking great.

Can we get a nice clean one in there along with the roughed up one.

:eek She is gorgeous! Are you going to do a Voyager varient? Would love to have her alongside the JLS Type 9
-
loks fantastic... i really need to learn how to properly map a ship
-
I agree with NXadam...leave a clean version of the texture as well. I also think this should be automatically included with Excalibur.
I just bet you're going to be swarmed with texturing requests
-
Can you also, pretty please, include the font type and blank textures. I don't want to inundate you with request but at least if we have all the ingredients, we can make our own personal shuttles for our own starships.
I must say this is the best TNG shuttle I've seen. It was beautifully done. Thank you so much.

I think baz already has the font and would know it's exact name. if I remember right, he used it on the last take on the Galaxy he made.

Thanks for all the comments and requests.

The FONTS used are FederationStarfleet for the Registry, and FederationWide for all the other writing. These will be included with the model for custom reg's.

A clean texture is not a problem, neither is releasing blanks. The PSD files will also be included to make changes more easily.
Again, thanks for the comments.

Thank you...

Hi,
I have adjusted the mapping in areas to get more resolution in the texture, its nearly complete as a clean version as the studio model really has not got a great deal of texturing. To that end should I stay true to the original? or start to add some plating etc?

Looking good!

looks great as is but maybe a few faint panel lines... make the panels relatively large id say.
-
Looks good.
I'd keep it as close to original as you can, but maybe you could include an optional spec map with some subtle panelling rather than having panelling on the main texture. That way in standard light it looks like the original but when the light hits at certain angles you get some more details.
There was no panel detail on the full size version either from what I remember.
