Actually, regarding the fangs, the Enterprise J has them, so I see them fitting into the lineage.

That ship is lean and elegant. This one looks like it stayed at a hotel between two McDonalds's. -Note: this actually happened to me in D.C....shame I hate McDonalds :D-
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
 Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

actually I don't recall anything happening to the Ent-E. they just stopped mentioning it in the timeline after it discovered the singularities.  It would be interesting to find out what really happened though.

Would be kinda cool if they did an STO version of "Yesterday's Enterprise". The Enterprise-E reemerges in the present (2409), and their disappearance could possibly have been the cause of the entire Federation/Klingon war.

The singularity they encountered, could've been a conduit into fluidic space (i.e Undine/8472).

On another subject altogether if I may... I just purchased STO and haven't installed it yet (yes I know, late bloomer) and was wondering if I could get some feedback on what all of you generally think about the game? Is it easy to play/figure out? If there are different "seasons" already, would I start out on season 1?

Anyhow, just a few starting questions to get me going.

Thanks in advance!

Seasons are updates, not actual episode packs.  Thus, the Season 4 update adds more content and fixes bugs, not forcing you into a new set of missions.

And for the brief time I played, I loved it.

Is it easy to play/figure out? If there are different "seasons" already, would I start out on season 1?

First, i'll start off by welcoming you to STO. For me, it's been quite a bumpy ride since it's original release in February 2010. I'll give you a rundown on it's progress from launch until today:

The game was originally launched with a distinct lack of content, and a necessity to do several "repeatable" missions to reach level cap, which at the time was 41 (Rear Admiral). When Season 1 was launched about 1.5 month later, the game added several much needed features, as well as the start of their proper "Endgame content" known as Special Task Forces (STFs for short). With the release of Season 2 in the end of July, the game got a drastic increase in playable content, an entire new sector block was opened where the player faces off against the Undine (Species 8472), and a raise in level cap to 51 (Vice Admiral).

Season 3 was the final major "Season" update of 2010, which focused primarily on UI updates which included an entirely revamped graphical experience while travelling through "Sector Space" (i.e when your ship is at warp). If you enable "Astrometrics" in the game via toggle, you'll see a similar view of what it looked like originally. The new sector space style is leaps and bound above the original style. By the time of STOs 1-year anniversary on Feb 2nd 2011, the Earth Spacedock was revamped to look like the one you see today, and which is most famous from the TOS movies and TNG. Season 3 also was the start of what Cryptic calls "Featured Episodes", which are episode arcs spanning 5 episodes, and the rewards are generally quite good. To date there are 3 completed episode arcs (Breen, Dividian, Romulan), with a 4th coming later in Season 4 involving Cardassians.

Season 3's biggest feature went live earlier this year, called The Foundry. Players are encouraged and enabled to create/play their own user-made content. The Foundry has had it's fair share of issues, but the goal is to effectively allow the player to create any scenario he/she wants eventually. New features and content will be added over time to the Foundry. The Foundry is nowhere near perfect as is, but with it, there have been many missions made by the players, some of which rival content created by Cryptic.

Season 4 is the latest seasonal update which went live earlier this month (July 7th), and with it came a completely revamped Ground Combat experience. Throughout the games first 3 seasons, the Ground Combat was always somewhat lacking (and frankly boring) compared to the near perfected Space Combat in the game. Ground Combat 2.0 upped the combat pace of the game, a complete rebalance of all ground skills/kits and weapons, and a rebalance to all ground armors/shields. The player is also given the ability to toggle between RPG Mode (default) and FPS Mode. In FPS mode, many abilities were opened up to allow "free fire" such as tossing grenades around, placing AoEs such as the Science force field etc.

In addition to Ground Combat 2.0, the Klingon "First City" on Quo'nos was completely revamped, and the results are most impressive. Later this season, Cryptic will be launching their "Duty Officer" system which will be an added level of customization to players ships/crews, and greatly simplify various common tasks, and generally make them more rewarding. Players will be able to send their "duty officers" on various assignments which can either be combat oriented, or diplomacy oriented, or several variations on them. Depending on the assignment, and the rank/quality of your assigned officers, the rewards can be greatly improved.

Lastly, Season 4 promises to include several more episode arcs (such as the aforementioned Cardassian-centric series), and there are many more things planned for the future.

I'll close with a recommendation to visit the official Wiki page for Star Trek Online, and read up on the upcoming content to the game.

Note: Many more things have been added over the course of the last year and a half. The above was merely a "brief" rundown on some of the more notable additions ;)

Thanks Darkthunder, you've given me a very good run down of STO.

Cookie for you!

Another question: After I install STO and start playing, should I go ahead and "patch" the game with the latest "seasons" or is that recommended from the start and automatically updated?

You should most definitely update your game to the latest version (i.e Patch). Without patching the game, you won't be able to access the Holodeck (game server). As previously stated, the term "Seasons" is generally referred to as their major updates. Think of them as mini-expansions to the game. Cryptic's previous title 'City of Heroes', used the term "Issues" for their major patches.

Also of note, is that a "Season" update is not just when the game is patched with said update, but also any content/patches to the game in the span of time between seasons. I have no doubt that Season 5 (TBD) will be a significant update to the game, much like previous Seasons have been.

In the STO-verse, the Enterprise E went though a 'singularity' in the Paulson Nebula and was never heard from again.

As far as I know, it wasn't. Only mention of the Enterprise and the Paulson Nebula was that it first encountered the Undine in the Alpha Quadrant there.

According to Exec Producer Dan Stahl, the Base class of the enterprise F, the Odyssey Class will be given out as a mission reward sometime in the future, Variants on the class will probably be C-Store/Emblems. More pictures will be coming out Friday.

Geez...first the JJ-Prise, and now this...why do they always, ALWAYS pick the most unflattering angles to unveil a ship from? :bitch:

Personally, I like the first three of the small images just fine.  But that angle for the big shot has only seemed to work for the Ent-E.

I like how the guy posting about it glossed over the fate of the Enterprise-E.  I guess when the F launches, most Fed officers are like "WTF?" and are then told that the details of the Ent-E are classified. :P

They're definitely getting better at design at least.  The style looks refreshingly 25th century and yet not as radical as previous designs of theirs such as the Horizon class.  That ball thing at the front looks so retarded...

CBS has not allowed him to say what the Ent-E's fate is, I'm guessing they're planning something.

Also I don't get people saying that Deflector looks like an eye ball, how does it look like an eye ball? I don't see any resemblance to an Eye ball at all, the Galaxy Class Deflector looks more like an Eye ball.

I'd love to see a higher detail model made for BC.

In other news... Starfleet Academy (2409) has been added to the game. Currently a social map, it will eventually be retooled for the new Federation Tutorial, coming later this year. Klingon Academy still WIP.

Getting up there is a bit more complicated, first you need to get over the fence by standing on the whale monument plaque then beaming to your bridge and back down, once you get to the other side, it involves walking counter-clockwise around the edge of the map, climbing through a couple trees and then carefully walking along the roofs of the buildings.

Yeah its a Jupiter Uniform with the Veteran "Bling" (when you hit 500 days and own the Jupiter Pack you get Variants with Shiny pieces)

No, I didn't so a roll glitch (there is a roll glitch?) to get up there, I got over the fence and hiked

Edit:

Ace Beat me to the punch.

Also Odyssey Class (Ent-F) Development patch one of the artists made
