Revitalized Eros Class Scout
« on: November 11, 2014, 11:08:15 AM »
Hello Everybody.

I've recently gotten crazy enough to attempt modeling, and after much internal debate as to what software to use I have finally decided to work with Blender. After watching some tutorials I decided to star messing around and I really think I'm starting to get the hang of some things. Though, to make it easier on myself I decided that instead of making a ship from the ground up* that I would try to give a remodeling to one of my favorite ships that has always been in a desperate need of a visual upgrade: the Eros Class Scout! :D

*I originally intended when I set out to start modelling to make some non-original ships that I have schematics for [and I still intend to do that at some point, probably after I get a better mastery at this]

I can't seem to figure out how to get images to work on here but here is an imgur album of my progress! : http://imgur.com/a/ioIOG

Any thoughts, comments, and especially help are very appreciated as I am incredibly new to modeling and probably don't know the best way to do stuff most of the time :)

Basically my end goal with this ship is to very much stay true to the original as best that I can. I also was thinking of making a second version once it's done that would have (at least) a different and more traditional style deflector--something really to make it look like it got an upgrade or maybe was refit for a different purpose or something. But anyway, for right now i'm just trying to get this original version looking good :P

Not a bad start at all. Will keep an eye on your progress.

Ok so I have a little bit of an update :D

I think I have completed the look of the nacelle for this ship.

This is going to be the final version of the nacelles I think, and right now I'd consider this part complete.

Also fixed a rather glaring problem on the saucer where there were some extra things left behind that needed to be deleted: http://i.imgur.com/t9yUadr.png

Now the saucer belly looks really fantastic. Now all that's left for the saucer I think is going to be the phaser strips. I haven't planned to much on phasers yet as I want them to be the very last thing I do with everything on the ship. But anyway, I know there will be two traditional strips on the underside of this saucer, where on the dorsal saucer section I will put phasers is something I don't know yet.

I wanted to do 2 variants of this ship one with the original deflector section and one with a more traditional deflector section, but I am definitely increasing the amount to 3 (maybe even 4) variants based on nacelle style and deflector style (essentially the different combination of 2 deflector styles and 2 nacelle styles). This is because I found Atolm's original concept sketch (http://screenshots.filesnetwork.com/17/files2/31657_6.jpg) and realised that the nacelles in his sketch didn't match the nacelles in the Eros model that was made by Interstellar Machine, which is due to the ship being made low poly for SFCIII, and it kinda explains a lot about why the nacelles looked weird in the model. Anywho, after looking at Atolm's original concept of the nacelles, I think they will be very easy to create and I am definitely wanting to include them on the regular ship as well as use them for the nacelles in the version of the ship I plan to do later with a traditional deflector, it should look good when I get to that point ;)

NINJA EDIT:

Ok I think I might actually want to go with this look for the nacelles instead, what do you guys think:

I think it looks a little better this way now that I think about it, and more even too.

And.... I figured out how to get images to work :P
