With a hint of ancient Egypt (WARNING: Pix heavy!)
« on: May 31, 2007, 06:34:05 PM »
Ancient Egypt was always my favorite era of human history. Not only that they had the longest surviving governmental hierarchy, but also had the greatest warrior (Tutmoses 3rd, never lost a single battle of the 17 campaigns he led), a mythology that was ripped off numerous times, the first monotheistic religion, etc.

So, since it's obvious I like ancient Egypt, and also the movie era of Trek, I blended the two into a line of ship designs, set between the Ent-B and Ent-C.

The forerunner of these ships is the Connie-like Luxor class heavy cruiser:

...followed by the logical Saladin-like Malkata class destroyer and her Mk2 variant with mega phasers:

...and an Eagle-like one, this is the Mk2, with the mega phasers:

...and the Akula-like Tutankhamun (Mk2 has top mega Phasers, Mk3 has bottom ones too):

...and an Interstellar Machine special, the Medinet Habu:

...and the Sneferu class DN (Sneferu was the pharaoh who pioneered of pyramid building):

There will be more bashes to come.

The plating surrounding the bridge even looks like a pharoah's golden headdress - like Tut's; good job.

Ah! The curse of the third-nacelle strikes again but aside from that, those ships look amazing. Excellent job.

My favourite so far is the first one (Luxor Class). Why couldnt they have built something that awesome to be the Enterprise-A in ST:4, ST:5 and ST:6?
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

Yeah, but there's a catch to it. Remember that on the Connie only the inside part of the plasma grid is lit up?

It's the same on the Luxor, and all of the 1 nacelle variants, the Tutankhamun, and the 3 nacelle one's center nacelle has them lit on both sides, depicting dual warp coils, so Gene's paired warp coils rule is kept.

The models look pretty much done to me. Have you moved onto HP and scripting work yet?

Just curious.

Oh how I like the Luxor class.
I really can't wait for this.
Along with DJ's ships this'll make one of the best mods of the year.

This looks great man! 8)  There was always a lack of lost era (timeline between Ent B and C) ships at BC. Again great work, looking forward to this :)

I wonder how they would look in TOS styles.
or even in pre-TNG designs.

those speculars on the saucer look preety smooth. just as a real plating should be

-are those 3ds renders? I saw a projected shadow there, (BC doesn't cast shadows)

Yes, they're all rendered in 3dsmax.

These are really great Adonis.  I love the textures, particularly the windows.  They've got a great 3d look to them.  Personally, the Tutankhamun is my favorite.  I like how you've built up the saucer areas below the nacelle pylons.  Top notch buddy.

Very nice indeed! Those pharoah style headress patterns remind me of the blue ones that appeared on the excelsior class, lovely render too, is 3dmax free at all? I'd like to render some models and ships for wallpaper purposes at some point and perhaps eventualy use it for modding purposes too.

i'm not sure i can quite see the point to the Medinet Habu variant... but i eagerly await the Miranda version

though my mind now wonders off by itself to imagine trek ship designs that would be around if the monotheistic Egyptian religion nicked Christianity's place in the grand scheme of things. Barring any 'gate influence, I'm getting a generally Romulan feel.

Awesome designs for those ships.  Egypt is always a cool place to do research on.

monotheistic Egyptian

Ah yes, Akhenatan and Nefertiti worshipping the aten.

Would ship variants using the names of tut and his wife use their original names?

No, I wanted to use the Amun suffix ones. After all they didn't use the Aten suffix names for long.
