bc playing but not showing up (modified.. .NEW PROBLEM)
« on: June 11, 2007, 07:52:58 PM »
today i just upgraded my computer with a GeForce 6200 OC graphics card. (its all my comp and handle) i was playing legacy for a bit which worked fine, then when i went to play BC, the game starts up, the screen goes black but then back to my desktop, meanwhile i can hear the videos play and then the menu sounds. im reluctant to reinstall because of all that i have in bc, if anyone knows how to help that would be very much appreciated.

Well, I'm not the best at this but back up your options.cfg and delete the original, then restart the game.  I have no idea if this will work but hey, sometimes it does.

Something to try at least.

Look for a file called 'options.cfg' in your BC directory. If you find it, delete it.

Your graphics will get set back to their default setup but BC will work again. Well, it should.

I had this very same problem when I upgraded my graphics card (X1900XTX 512mb) untill I did what I had just said above.

After delelting 'options.cfg' simply run the game and reset all your options to what you had before.

Let us know if it worked.
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

well, i thought the crisis was over, but it seems this new card had an agenda of its own. ever since i put it in, when i run a game such as bc or legacy, after 30-40 minutes it crashes to the blue screen. i thought if i ran it more the card would get use to it and cope with it. now when i run bc, i get a runtime error c++ message, legacy will start then immediately crash to the blue screen, and x3:reunion says i have a display problem. i called up nvidia, they told me to uninstall the card, dl driver version 84.21 and then install it and it should all work. well, it did nothing. i dont want to lose this card, because when it works it works beautifully, any suggestions????? PLEASE HELP!

Try to find some sort of benchmark or diagnostic tool for your card.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

Have you tried the tests in one of the tabs?

Perhaps your power supply is insufficiently powerful to run the card?

hmm, the minimum is 250W for it, and my computer has a 230W, you think that really makes all the difference?

it depends on how much other stuff you have in the computer.  if it's fully loaded, then with only a 230W power supply, it's probably close to maxing out.

i got 13,475,528,704 bites free, 12.5 GB, with only 4 games, x3:reunion, bc, legacy, and elite force. theres really not much on this computer, and its so frustrating. i bought this card because this comp cant run the games smoothly, and now this card is making things worse!            ...what would kirk do?

I don't mean software.

I mean hardware.

For example, if you have 2 optical drives (like cd or dvd), plus a hard drive and maybe a second hard drive, plus a bunch of other stuff, your power supply could be stretched to the limit.

230W is a very limited power supply, and would not be useful for much more than the most basic graphics card.

Do you have problems with other games?

elite force runs perfectly, no problems at all. x3 bc and legacy are newer and stronger games. (bc because of mods and new ships) they need more of an umph. i only have a cd drive on this computer.

question tho, when i got device manager, its says my Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family is enabled, along with the NVIDIA GeForce 6200. i had the intel disabled thinkin that it was conflicting w/it, but when i re-enabled it the games actually started up and would play until they crashed.

That's mostlikely the power thing.
