A vector image is an image that is really crisp and no matter how large the image gets, it never get pixelly.  That is what I know.  Pixelly- is that a word?

While bitmaps are painted pixels (points)
Vectors work with.. well, vectors.. that means, lines dinamically created between 2 points.

this might be accurate for charts or signs, or something where you have letters or icons.
but for pics, best to stay with bitmaps and AA.
having tried vectors myself, I still preffer bitmap images to 'vectorized' images when it comese to textures or backgrounds. it might be faster to render than bitmaps at the distance, but closer they look like anime paintings. you know, step-shaded instead of smooth-shaded.
also, there aren't much programs that work with vector images as raw material. you have to convert them to bitmaps to load them.

well, about the step-shaded look you're right. although PSP X and PS CS2 work just fine with the ESPs or SVGs (although I'd recommend The Gimp for the SVGs).

As for logos and simple shapes you're right.

no, I mean, 3d programs that can load them as texture. some WMFs maybe, but they seem to convert them to bitmap
or graphic engines that use them instead of BMPs, for that matter.

of course that programs like paint shop pro, photoshop, illustrator or corel can load them.

I thought Photoshop CS3 could deal with those and could place them on objects in a 3d space..
