CGI LCVoyager and all her shuttles
« on: November 01, 2007, 06:31:45 PM »
As some of you may know, well only a few :p, i've been working on brand new textures on the lc intrepid to make it look more like the show. Some of you may have noticed the the colours on lc's current textures are different to that on the show. that would be because LC based them off the actual model, not the cgi version. I, being a big fan of voyager, have decided to create textures which look like the show, so here it goes.

I wanted to get general feedback before i finish the textures. I've completed the textures for the saucer and spine, around 80% on the bottom of the saucer and around 50% on the sides... note the windows which you see on the sides are just the glows, i havent put any on yet:P. the nacelles have a new darker colour, but the rest of the textures on there still need to be done. Also the main deflector and the aux deflector still need doing, so the one's you currently see are lc's. other than that, everything else is brand new. The BC members who i've shown this to so far say it does look like the show, with the bluish/grey tint to the hull. Anyways less of the talk and lets see what you think.

unless Relativity is considered to be an alternate timeline, the voyager hull is white/grey and liiiiiiiiiiiiightly blue-ish

the yellow tone comes from the drydock lights. lower it in photoshop and you'll get the right tone.

LC got his original colours as close to the studio model as your probably going to get, while these look okay, I'm gonna stick with LC's.  :D

The Model and textures are really good I'm not sure this ship need an overhaul just yet!?

well look at these pics, you can see the colour of the hull in them better. The hull clearly has a bluish tint to it for the cgi version.

Well like i said, i'm not going for the model look im going for the show look, whether it was cgi or not. It's only like you retexturing the galaxy.

I felt and along with others who i i've been speaking to, felt the textures lacked depth, no offence LC as you did do a great job, but as i said in the pm's to lc i want the lc intrepid to look more like the show.

Besides it's just the same with the lc defiant, thats had an overhaul done by lint, I'm just doing the same for the intrepid

OK, seems like my clarification at the pm was not enough for you JB.
After one year of research i consider myself an intrepid specialist, so let me do this again, and you please change this to "CGI model based retexture" as i requested.
This should end the discussion.

Your whole point is based on the fact that teh CGI model they used after season 3 is a huge piece of crap.
They were not able to make it accurated to the studio model neither in shape, colors or details.

As being a big hater of the piece of s**t, i based my model at the studio model, which is the original voyager. That said, the colours used at my model are if not 100%, 90% accurated to the studio model, and the fact the colours are different from your resouces are based at the fact that the CGI model used late at the show was innacurated, not my ingame model.

Of course i have proof of that. Let me post a comparsion between orthos from the crap, i mean cgi and the studio model.

Well i did put show, i guess that was not enough. I also concur with AndrewJ, that is your opinion that the cgi model is crap, it may look it, but quite frankly the cgi was used more is the series than the model thats why i'm doing it. In MY HUMBLE OPINION the textures on the cgi look better than the crappy model, so that's that. its a matter of personal taste.

This mod wasn't going to overwrite anything on either the km1 version, the one later released or BR's pack, it was going to be a new ship, so if your worried about it overwriting LC's version, its not gona happen. And at this rate i will not release it as i asked for a general concensus about the textures not, " the lc intrepid textures which are on are fine". That again some of you is your opinion. I'm not bothered that the current ones are "ok", but like i said at the start and indeed the rest of my posts its for the show model... CGI.

I don't see why you didn't give lint all this hassle everyone, as he's doing the exact same thing.

Just because something is not your taste does not make it crap.

Actually like i said, it`s not a crap because i don't like it, but because it were poorly done, not fitting either the shape or the colors it should fit, and yes, that does make it crap; and yes, it`s commonly considered a crap because of that.
I`m not that narrow minded, nor should you be, ok?
JB likes how the colors look in the screen and that's fine, but that does not change the fact that they were unable to propper represent what they were trying  to represent with fidelity, when that happens, it`s called crap modelling or crap texturing; i doubt that if they would be fans posting a model that different in a forums like SFM by now, they would have good criticism.

I don't see why you didn't give lint all this hassle everyone, as he's doing the exact same thing.

I think that`s because Lint had a more foccused achieve like "making it look like into a determinated episode" and were aware that it were not the same reference i used. And even posted a cap of the current episode. What means he did his homework to understand why the models were different.
To be frankly i was really pissed when you're in your pm asked permission to (not at this words, but with this meaning) fix the wrong colors at my model, a model that i took one year to research and two to paint.
Yet, after we spoken and clarified that it were not an error, but a use of different sources, i granted you permission, and just requested you to state the propper nature of the retexture you wanted to do, so it would be clear to all n00bs that are not familiar with the voyager development, and yes, for that "show retexture" was not enough, because it was implicating my version was not in the show, which is, at least, incorrect.

TBH, i`m no fan of extensive retextures, like the 20-30 that were done from the sns galaxy or cg sov, but that never stoped me granting permissions and will not now. If people will use this or mine, is up to this taste and does not matter to me, as it's impossible to please all trekker-nit-pickers all around with one single ship (God i tried in the past). I just wanted to give then the right list of options to choose from.

Now i think this thread should go back on topic, and leave all this discussion for the past.

dont bring me into this!, haha.
Just adding on to what lc said,
The Defiant i originally did was the new Defiant/Sao Paulo which obviously looked and had a totally different paint job/texture from the original that got blown up,
LC's original texture is totally perfect and about 97% accurate to the studio model of the defiant, which he based it off aswell as he did with the voyager (thats what i conclude by the images of the studio defiant i have).
If anything i am more wrong from the versions im doing because he based it off the original model and im basing it off the (often inaccurate) cgi
i still use and play with the original texture because thats still an awesome texture.

Well i admit, in the first pm when i asked your permission and i said about afew colour corrections i intended to make, i did not no that there was a difference texture wise between the cgi version and studio model. Now i no that your textures were made from for the studio model, they match the studio model fantastically, but like i said i prefer the one on screen so the colour changes are necessary as the cgi textures are different like you've stated.

So yeh please can we get back on topic, or actually start the topic as so far all there has been is talk about lc's current textures. thanks

Coming from someone who was around in the early days of this forumand who watched LC's original Intrepid thread very closely, I can honestly say that LC put a tremendous amount of work and time into all aspects of his Intrepid. I also believe that the colourscheme of the model is as close to canon as anyone is likely to get.  :D

As I said in an earlier post, This ship is literally straight out of drydock (Literally!!). Can't you guy's at least let the paint dry first, before giving the Intrepid a Makeover!?

Well actually i watched lc's progress when making the intrepid, i'm not saying that the model and textures are a pile of s**t, I said he done an outstanding job, I just want textures that look like the show... CGI, not the model, as the series used the CGI model more than the studio model.

Glenn, the colour scheme that lc done is for the studio model, which indeed is canon, but the textures DO NOT MATCH the CGI model!!!! The textures which im doing... the CGI Version are also canon and doubtfull that anyone is likely to get it more canon.

FOR THE FINAL TIME ANYWAY CAN WE GET BACK ON TOPIC. I don't give two horses butts that there's nothing wrong with lc's textures which there isnt if you compare it to the studio model, but when you do to the CGI model, the textures are wrong!!!!!

That is why i'm making this.

JB or any other moddy if there are anymore offtopic posts after this, please lock it down and i'll go over to bcs were im not going to get this kiss butting attitude towards lc.

FOR THE FINAL TIME ANYWAY CAN WE GET BACK ON TOPIC.
first of all - let the staff do the moderating ok??  i wont ask this again...

second - tone it down a bit please...  your attitude is becoming increasingly abrasive in this thread, and we will decide if a thread needs locking or not so requesting one under whatever circumstances which should possibly arrive is irrelevant...

thirdly - you should really show some respect to people who know what they are taking about, have amazing skills in what they do, and have been around alot longer...  even if you disagree you should show the respect not to argue and nitpick back...

JB or any other moddy if there are anymore offtopic posts after this, please lock it down and i'll go over to bcs were im not going to get this kiss butting attitude towards lc.

~Jb06
frankly, LC has done more for BC than pretty much anyone, and deserves the "kiss butting attitude" as you so nicely put it - this is *his* model youre working from, after all...  (and he could pull the plug on this project at any point, if he really wanted to)

finally, please dont drag BCS into this and make mention of it in the manner you just did...  i, for one, have great and immense respect and admiration for LC and may be one of those "kiss butters" of his you referred to, so life wont be any easier for you there than it would be here...

Personally Legacy I think your going a little over the top over this.
you're out of line, dude...  keep yourself in check please...  you have posted nothing in this thread but arguments towards LC and that will stop now...

now *FOR THE FINAL TIME* this whole matter will be dropped now (unless LC has something he would like to say)...  any more disrespect to anyone from anyone, and this thread will cease to exist here (or at BCS)...

consider this a general warning...  anyone else (that is not staff) posting about this drama/matter will be considered for a ban...
