And they aren't even freaking powered up yet.

Oh, and JJ says he is in no way seeking to Reboot the franchise or replace canon. He will be following the Trek Bible. After all, he is a fan. He has seen every movie except Nemesis (same with me :D) stating that he felt that the series had gotten out of control.

Imagine what Trek will be like WITHOUT Berman and Braga at the helm.

You know, that's a great point. They wouldn't paint the vessel until it was completed.

Where has it been confirmed that it's a BSG ripoff?

That's pretty much the classic Connie 40 years worth of SFX later. The original drawings of the Connie from the 60's had Aztecing, but it couldn't be done within their budget. It was finally applied in TMP. As far as the nacelles, that's pretty close to what I'd imagine the Bussards look like powered down.

Abrams said that the Enterprise is pretty much exactly the same on the outside, but visually expanded on. It's basically what the Connie should have looked like back in 1966. They even hired the old fellas from the Original Series who are left to help work on the design. It's even recieved praise from the Okudas.

As far as being a reboot like BSG, that's not the case. It's still set within the current Trek Universe. All it gets is a visual reboot, which personally can be lived with.

EDIT: Oh yeah, this is totally a bastardization of the original design.

Aside from the SFX improvements, I can't tell a single design change.

Looks rather interesting.   At least we got to see the San Fransisco Fleet Yards. :D

  • Doctor who? ;)
I can't get over how much this new Connie reminds me of Gabriel Koeners reimagined mesh. Though it wouldn't surprise me if it was his. It wouldn't be the first time him and J.J. Abrams worked together on something.

Gabe did do effects on Lost so I am hoping that if this does turn out to be Gabe's Enterprise, that it was modified a bit to really give the feeling of 'reimagined'.
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

We know Gabe was involved on the project. Unconfirmed reports state "It's pretty much his model toned down to more closely resemble the classic Enterprise."

That would be brilliant, but, everything I've heard says the opposite. GK himself has publicly denied any involvement in the film. Then again, maybe he had agreed to say that, as required by contract with the producers, and JJ Abrams.

There's huge money in this industry.

Their TOS-era ships were sort of BOP-typish, weren't they? Fracked if I can remember...

Haha. Not to mention just taking apart the sections and fastening them back together in orbit, like the Galaxy :P.
