Eximius retexture
« on: December 01, 2007, 09:48:48 AM »
Hi there !
Here I've got something different than TMP ships, (I have to rest from these for a while) the Eximius is a cool ship but it has almost every texture ripped from p81 sov which I don't like... they are outdated, and there is only one way to get rid of outdated textures - replace them with new ones :D
here is a pic :

it is a cool ship, so your just going to replace them with more upto date sov textures?
how about creating a new texture thatll make the eximius stand out more, but still keeping elements of the sov textures, i think itll look reli gd like that  :D

are you keeping the mapping or remapping it too?
I just realised something. I've released over 300 fully modded ships for bridge commander. Bow to your master :D

if your willing to go a step further you should try and smooth out the mesh and round off the secondry hull a little :),
But never the less, cant wait to see what you come up with!

Cool.  The Eximus is a neat ship and is way overdue for having been redone.  If you're going to go to the trouble of making new textures for it, definitely remap the thing too, the old maps had some silliness to them.

I'll ask some finest modellers if they could improve model, add phasers stripes.

are you keeping the mapping or remapping it too?
No just retexturing, there is no need to remap anything I think

If I only had enough experience with ms3d, I would  :D

EDIT:

I've pointed out some areas which needs to be fixed cuz they look awful also secondary hull needs to be smoothed as it is on CG Sov.

Is there anyone who would like to edit model ? (fix pointed issues, fix smoothing, add some phasers strips and eventually remap it a little)

Now what color should be the deflector ? I gave it blue but its kinda doesn't fit well to this design in my opinion ...

looks good so far :)

I think the deflector should be yellow just like it was on the Sovereign class

Well I guess this will replace old eximius with this one and since this ship will have standard 1024x1024 maps plus rather low polycount it will still run very smoothly  :D HP will also be altered only slightly, I don't want to break the balance between all KM ships

well I am tempted now to add some pulse phasers in front of the ship and leave the rest as it is now and maybe make shields weaker but with faster recharge rate
I don't want this ship to be a god ship just small and maneuverable ship something like future sovereign/sabre mix

The eximus is atleast a CL. Or perhaps a strike cruiser.

I agree. If you make it the size of a Nova, you're de-fanging it, and that's not doing the ship justice. The original artist obviously meant for it to be a front-line combat ship, leading the attack as either a battle-group command vessel, or as an escort cruiser for high-value units.

It doesn't have to be a "god-ship"- but it should certainly be a very frightening enemy for anything less than a tactical cube to have to face.
