Star Systems in BC
« on: November 30, 2007, 09:12:08 PM »
Hello all, here is something that's been bugging me for a long time.  Does anyone know how BC "sees" the various systems with an install?

Case in point, I have the MultiPlayer System Maps for stock 1.1 - Final Edition (ALTERNATIVE) (http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/;22113) by Chris Jones and Jeff Watts installed.  When I configure a QuickBattle session, I can select one of the nine systems within CJones system menu to fight in.  Now, the problem I have is that when I want to warp to one of these systems, they do not appear within Kiska's menu to select.

By chance and given the date of the pack (2003), I did send an e-mail to the author(s) of the pack a long time ago, but I never got a response.

So, does anyone here have any insight?

Thanks.

That's the problem with NanoFXv2, the systems that are present are hardcoded into the menu.

There is a so called "fix", which basicly hard codes a lot more system in it, without doing anything smart, and even includes 2 systems that need special attention (but doesn't provide). So I won't point you to that. And don't bother looking for it.

I suppose your only option is to check out Galaxy Charts (recently released).
I think, from a quick glance at the code, it contains all systems. Not sure unfortunatly.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

With GC it's easier to add a system for BC. You just create a System Plugin for it. And with the mod, besides various examples, there's also a .NEW Framework application to create them, and a 4 page long tutorial explaining how to use the System Plugin Creator Tool to create these plugins.

GC includes system plugins for all systems contained in KM1

What prompted me to inquire about these systems is that I did install KM1 and the systems appeared within Kiska's menu, which surprised me.  I'm still having a problem with GC that USS Frontier is aware of, which is posted in the GC Technical forum.  I experienced two other issues with my BC install after I put in KM1, which I will reference in the other posting.  Please understand that I'm not blaming GC for anything.  I truly believe that I have a mod or something that's giving me problems.

I do have a back-up of BC, so I will go ahead and uninstall what I currently have and place a fresh copy and see what happens.

Well, I didn't fair any better after installing KM1.  I've attached the logs generated by Galaxy Charts and Console Tracker.  In addition, here is the link to my postings in the Galaxy Charts forum - http://bcscripters.com/forums/index.php/topic,1349.0.html.  I hope this isn't inappropriate.

Well, it seems like I accomplished what I wanted.  I edited my LoadNanoFX.py file and created an entry to point to the CJones System and I'm able to warp to each by selecting them from Kiska's menu (so far - so good).

I'm curious, what are the 2 systems that need special attention?

DryDock and Starbase12

I'm sorry, I currently can't remember of the top of my head what it exactly was.

It was slightly more serious, crash prone to say the least.
