Yes.

if all goes well, we`ll be looking at, in fact, two models... a deployed ablative armor variant and the standard ship.

Sounds good.  Like I said a long time ago, rebuilding your first ships always gets you a better product.

Agreed, and as evidence shows, you couldn't be any more right... this will be the fourth (or fifth...) reconstruction, I believe. But it will be well worth it, I can assure you all of that.

Edit: additionally, Wiley`s said he`ll help teach me to texture as well. I imagine this`ll be easier for him, too, with his education and all taking his time, so this will be one less project on his shoulders. Heh, one step at a time, though. :)

If you are rebuilding for quality and performance, than I wish you success, and that a scanner falls out of the sky, into your lap, in which a pillow fell only seconds before.

I shall let the pics speak for themselves. :) Yeah, there's still some cleaning to do... and the warp nacelles are crap, I admit. :P

nice work aeries, this mesh is clearly an improvement in precision and quality over the last.  some suggestions...

-try to blend the saucer and drive section a bit.  not necessary, just preference.
-the nacelles are a bit blocky and factory looking.  try making them sleeker by pulling faces to angles.
-add some detail to the bottom of the saucer.

gotta say tho, this looks really promising.

Better definitely, though I say give it something like the previous nacelles, those were awesome.

Personally, i'd say leave the nacelles as is. Gives a definite unique look to the ship, and from the pics posted it looks pretty good already. I'm sure with texturing, the nacelles could look really nice.

Thanks, DJ. I've taken those suggestions and I'm almost done re-working the whole ship... it's much, MUCH better now; I actually tore it apart and practically re-built certain portions that just seemed too choppy. If time will allow, tomorrow, I hope to have an update for tomorrow night. Not sure on those nacelles, though... you're right, they need to be smoothed out and they do look quite 'factory' looking... I'm going to re-build those from scratch again and see if I can come up with something that flows better with the sleek hull, like the old Mithra... but less... well, crude... so to speak. The poly count is ridiculous, too... so I'm gonna give that some time and effort soon. 14k. Yeah, scary... but I know exactly how I'll fix this, so no worries there. :)

Expect an update for tomorrow afternoon, if all goes well. :)

Thanks, guys.
-Aeries.

Well Aeries, I await your new pictures. Excellent work so far. I cannot think of anything to say, other than what's been said already.

14K is manageable.

agreed, IMO 18k could be manageable on any modern system. great work so far although i agree the nacelles are stocky, particularly the aft tips. have a cookie and bring us more pictures :-P

IMHO, the main problem with the previous meshes were the huge nacelles that you seemed to strap to them. Made it look way too bulky and clumsy. This new mesh is a big improvment but I fear it that it suffers from 'fat nacelle syndrome' again.
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

nice contrast, I say ;)
But making the secondary hull flow a little better with the saucer would be hawt :)

Like what ya've done with the topside, makes it look like a more advanced ship. The deflector seems to be an era behind the rest of the design, perhaps a dauntless styled deflector would have been better, as the ship sorta screams slipstream drive.
I just realised something. I've released over 300 fully modded ships for bridge commander. Bow to your master :D

Update. I've re-typed this a couple times now... damn internet. To summarize, there's a new impulse engine, forward quantum launchers (defiant-style... ish), armor (though limited, compared to the old model, and it'll stay limited...), shuttle bay, and new yet-incomplete nacelles. I'm really considering Starforce's suggestion. Opinions?

thanks so far, everybody. :D

*edit* WOO! It worked! :D

No, no, no....Dauntless was fugly, imo, and not Starfleet at all.

Here's what I think on the deflector area.  It should be smooth, almost one with the saucer, with an area carved out just to house the deflector and quantum turret(if wanted).  No Dauntless.

As for the engines, I still say something along the lines of the last batch.  Those were freaking awesome.
