First, importing the model. Second, adjusting and making the materials. Third, applying them. Fourth, finding and thinking about backgrounds. Fifth, making the effects and planets and finalizing adjustment the materials. This is the way I describe it :P ;)

Different kind of render now. :)
"To live on as we have is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know it will turn to ash. Only those whose lives are brief can imagine that love is eternal. You should embrace that remarkable illusion. It may be the greatest gift your race has ever received."

And update to the Galaxy

Hmm maybe add a little bit of a light reflection off the planet onto the ship.

And update to the Galaxy

There he goes again  :evil . I just had to make that my desktop background. But I agree. Some light reflection from the planet would make it look better. The Galaxy shall shine for all to see and for some to fear. A majestic sight she is!

My love
Is wand'ring in star-flight
I know
He'll find in star-clustered reaches

His journey ends never
His star trek
Will go on forever.
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember, remember me."

I just checked the model and blue light is in fact coming from the drydock. Why they are blue, I have no idea. Guess I should have checked that before hand.

OH this is sweeeeet, reminds me of NEM shot I've taken quite a long time ago (the one with battle damaged/ forward saucer sections replaced Sovereign in dry dock above Earth) I like those blue lights btw. ;)

First time rendering in a long long time. Using the frankly prehistoric Truspace II to render. Just a bit of fun. Initially indpired by a dream (which is where the sphere around the Earth comes from too), and then I just chucked Galactica in there for good measure.

Klingon Academy now works on XP/Vista/Win 7 thanks to one dude's patches, click here for details. I highly recommend it!
