The USS Swiftsure departs Spacedock, unaware that it is going to help later decide the fate of the Earth...

(Part of a storyline I'm thinking of doing.)

As Im seeing the light is far and thats why the light needs to be 8192 ;) More distanced light needs more resolution on the shadow ;)

Here are some difficulties from the games. Shadow resolution is mapped on the light source, not on the shadow source. Thats why, if the object is more far and more far from the light source, more shadow resultion the scene needs :P

Why not just use raytraced shadows? Then the distance from the light source doesn't matter at all.

  • Why Dante's Inferno style font?
  • How is a tmp akula class starfleet's newest ship?

-rain ? what rain ?
-It's quite similiar to the font used in Nemesis main title
-yeah agreed on that... TMP Akula looks out of place compared to the Century, Galaxy, Nebula, Sobieski, Niagara etc.

-The rain is actually part of the music track.
-The same font as in Star Trek Nemesis.

I'm a HUGE fan of the Sobieski class. I'm thinking of putting her in a later part of the story. :)

The Sobieski is really good ship :P Im looking forward to see the animation. I tried the new 3ds max 2011. It has new quicksilver render, which renders mostly from the GPU and a bit CPU. But in my animations, the data is with too long instructions and in quicksilver render everything is black  But I tried much more simple scene and with the quicksilver, the scene is being rendered 15-20 times much faster than with CPU only :eek In rendering even with CPU there is a bit differense in the speed of rendering, a bit faster and the 3ds max 2011 has except DX9 render, it has and DX10 :P

I thought I recognised that Akula leaving the starbase there, if I'm not mistaken it's my ol' Swiftsure variant  ;) . After I'm done with Starbase 12 I might return to her breifly and sort out some of the flaws in the model, I was never quite happy with how 'unclean' she was.

I like the animation btw. I agree with Limey that raytraced shadows would work better. Other than that it all looks good  !

Thanks Unknown :D I love the Swiftsure!

@ Vladko, I'm probably going to stick with 3ds Max 9 because there are certain plugins for it that only work with this version of the program, such as the one I used to make the Romulan Phaser.

-The rain is actually part of the music track.
Still, it doesn't sound right. I understand there's not much you can do about it, but it really makes it seem like you're going for "rain in space."
-The same font as in Star Trek Nemesis.
However, with the color scheme you have going on it definitely loses the trek feel.
-What Vladko said.
I think with better wording it wouldn't come off so awkward. Something like, "The USS Swiftsure, fresh from ---- shipyards, and brought up to Starfleets' newest standards..."
