Haha, I remember actually attempting a combo of the JJ-Warp and the standard warp styles a while back.
It's not bad, all I can say is that you need to skew the procedural if you attempt it again. Maybe try stretching it 4-5x along the y than the x, then just set the z scale to something ridiculous. That alone winds up with a pretty spiffy effect (No post processing required!). Actually, maybe I'll submit something to show how it winds up for me when I do it. I also managed to make a very neat slipstream out of procedurals last night. It's amazing what you can do with procedural textures...
EDIT:
Threw this together in a few minutes, nothing fancy. Didn't want to sit around doing nothing for a half hour so there's no aa, motion blur, bloom, glow etc. If I have some time over the weekend I'll put together a longer clip with better detail.
