USS Anduril NCC-74820; Endor-class starship
« on: November 20, 2008, 06:41:52 PM »
Design History:  The USS Narsil NCC-71239 was a Sovereign-class starship active until the early weeks of the Dominion War.  The Narsil was on a routine patrol near the Badlands when she was attacked by five Jem'Hadar attack fighters.  Because of the sheer concentrated firepower and the lack of back up, the Narsil was critically damaged by the time the fighters were destroyed.  The ship was evacuated mere minutes before the warp core breached.  The captain of the Narsil returned to Earth for a short time.  After a long court-martial which cleared captain and crew of any culpability in the loss of the starship, the captain transferred to Utopia Planitia where he began to design a ship based off of the Sovereign design, but one that would be smaller, faster, more heavily armed, and cheaper to produce.  His idea was for this ship to be an escort for the more expensive Sovereign-class starships.  The prototype vessel for the class was the USS Endor NX-73302.  The name Endor was a reference to the writings of JRR Tolkien.  The first ship carried a limited amount of weaponry and was mainly used as a testbed.  The second ship of the class was put into production after successful trials of the Endor.  The second ship was un-named for quite some time, but was quickly upgraded with higher powered phaser arrays than the Narsil carried.  The new phaser arrays were also capable of burst-fire, which allowed the arrays to fire rapid bursts similar to pulse phasers.  She was also equipped with rapid-fire photon torpedo launchers and two quantum torpedo turrets.  Because of the second ship's smaller size compared to Sovereign or Galaxy class vessels, the decision was made to plate the hull with ablative armor.  The ship's final weapons count was seventeen phaser arrays, seven rapid fire photon torpedo launchers (4 fore and 3 aft), and two quantum torpedo turrets(1 fore and 1 aft).  The ship was eventually christened the USS Anduril NCC-74820 and her original designer and former captain of the Narsil was given command.  However, the Anduril was pressed into service far sooner than expected.  The ship was being built at the San Francisco shipyard in orbit of Earth when the Breen attacked.  With a skeleton crew, most of her phaser arrays unpowered, and only a small complement of photon torpedos aboard, the Anduril barely managed to stay intact after the Breen attack.  Unfortunately, by the time repairs were completed and the Anduril was ready for her final shakedown cruise, the Dominion War was over.  The Anduril was then assigned to the Bajoran sector as a defensive measure against any rogue Dominion or Cardassian vessels that might attack Deep Space Nine.

the design is definately interesting, I'm not sure about that secondary deflector though...

Endor was Star Wars and Anduril was JRR Tolkien.
V nice design, i would love to see more!

Actually, Endor is an elvish name for Middle Earth.  Therefore, Lucas ripped the name off Tolkien. :P  And both ripped it off of the Hebrew Bible. :P

And the reasoning for the secondary deflector is that this ship is fully capable of separating for battle as both sections have impulse drive.  Of course the saucer has Sovereign style impulse drives, and the engineering hull has impulse drives in the pylons somewhat similar to the Valdore.

Thanks guys!  This design has evolved in my head since its original conception as an Enterprise-G.  In that incarnation, it had six nacelles and was essentially a gigantic Frankenstein ship until it got to it's current form.

in the Old Testament it is the name of a town in  'Joshua chapter 17 verse 11'

to get back on topic, good ship, how many polies do you estimate, and Have you figured on a texture size.

That's a very, VERY good question.  I can't model.  Adonis did say that he would make the ship, but that was quite some time ago. :P

I do also want to apologize for the lack of escape pods, windows, and hull lines.  I'm not good at that kind of thing. >.>
