LCARS Interface Modules: Starfleet Vessel Database Update!!
« on: November 04, 2006, 04:58:09 PM »
Hi there everyone,

For a couple of months now, I've been busy making LCARS Presentations in Macromedia Flash. Star Trek LCARS have always facinated me. So a while back I decided to make an Interface complete with information on the Star Trek Universe.

I recently completed my first module of the LCARS Interface, here is the link to the completed file which is available for a free download:-

http://files.filefront.com/M1_Overview_2376swf/;6132848;;/fileinfo.html

Included is an Alpha Quadrant Overview taken one year aft the end of the Dominion War. All the major races are included, (with exception of the breen I will cover then thoroughly in a future module). Here are a couple of pics!!.

This interface is COMPLETELY INTERACTIVE, you can press buttons, return to menu's etc.

Next I hope to do a module on the Federation News Service, If won't be as big as this file but I hope to add some programming that will change the stardate and the main headlines displayed on the page so that everytime it's activated a new news headline will appear!!.

KEY FUTURE PROJECTS:

I) STARFLEET STARSHIP ENCYCLOPEDIA - A comprehensive view of all starfleet vessels, past and present (Be warned it will also have a few non-canon starships in it, artistic licence you know!!).

II) ALLIED, NEUTRAL & HOSTILE VESSEL DATABASES - These will be seperate files and will contain all the allied, neutral and threat force vessels.

III) STARSHIP UPGRADES DATABASE - A database containing updates to vessel classes and specific ships.

IV) CIVILATIONS DATABASE - A database containing entries and pictures on all known Star Trek Species (This could be a biggie!!).

V) PLANETARY DATABASE - All known planets, systems, nebulae etc; will be included in this database.

VI) DOMINION WAR HISTORICAL ARCHIVE - A datafile of all there is to know about the dominion war. All the key events will be covered and a detailed timeline will be part of this database.

phew...

the completion of these is a long way off, but I hope to have all of them completed within a year. So if you like what you see then please sit tight and be patient!!

Hope you all like!!
 :D

Looks promising, though I highly doubt you'll be able to do all of this yourself in one year, what with real life and all.  I'd be happy to help you fact-check, if you like.  I'm also good at getting hard-to-find images, accurate ship schematics, and other visual things.  Just drop me a PM whenever you can't find something or would like something checked for canonity.  ;)

I do have one condition to lending a hand, though: You stick to overall canon material.  The non-canon ships you mentioned should be fine (just as long as you mention that's it's non-canon somewhere; perhaps a unique LCARS color palette for non-canon material?), just nothing that's way out of left field, like those baddies from the Elite Force II game, or anything relating to 'ENTERPRISE' (of course).

eh I should have guessed, the only good season of enterprise was season 4 (well except for Storm Front and TATV)

Thanks folks!!,

@ Phaser, thanks very much for your offer!!, I'll keep it in mind. I should be alright though, I've been collecting Star Trek Reference Material for years!!.

I originally tried to do this three or four years back with "Powerpoint", but it just didn't look canon!!, and I had a lot of reference material then.

But if I need a second opinion, at least I know where to come!!

Elgy, by all means, DON'T leave the Enterprise timeline and ships out of it.

As Adonis said Macromedia Flash player is used to open the file, here's a link:-

@DJ - Thanks a lot, I'm glad you like it as much as I like your ships, cheers!!  :D

@Adonis - Don't worry not a single ship is going to be left out of the Starship Encyclopedia.

I suppose I'd be okay with them being included as long as they're in a completely different section, and it's clearly stated that they're from a different timeline.

That entire statement, is by definition non-canon. Was it stated in a movie or episode that the Enterprise-timeline took place in a different one then we are used to? :P *I think not*

I find the text a bit hard to read. I have to actually get closer to my screen in order to read it. Perhaps make the font just a little bigger?

oh please don't make this another enterprise debate, by all definition enterprise is canon and in the same timeline as all the other series.

I'll keep it in mind for the future projects, it's a bit to late to change the Alpha Quadrant Overview now, and I'm pleased with it!!. But I will make the on-screen text a little bigger for the rest of the modules.

Thanx
