How could the Naradas weapons system be acheived?
« on: April 17, 2009, 03:39:35 PM »
I have read around that weapons in BC can not look like actual weapons(missles, bombs and such) but, that torpedoes can clone themselves atleast once. Though can a torpedo clone itself about a dozen times and all of them be like a ninth/tenth the size of the original? What about trails? I havn't(that I can recall) seen anything about weapons in BC with trails. The only things that we don't know about the missles that the Narada fires are what do they sound like and are all of the main warheads(and mini-warheads) the same in appearence. Obviously we wont find out till we go see the movie ourselves.

So, how would this work in BC? Maybe have a green torpedo with random blackness in it orthe other way around. Maybe hardpoint Weily's Narada to have 5 hps that fire two of the main warheads each and then 10 hps that fire three mini-warheads each.

Those are my ideas, what do you guys think would work?
All hail the messiah!

I had this mad idea of instead of torpedo scripts using targa's, it uses nif's instead. Mad huh?

Doesn't the plasma stream system/point defence use models? I could be wrong.

With FTech you can make a torp "split" into several ones. Each of the "child" torpedoes have the same torpedo script than each other, however they can have a different script than the parent torpedo.

Also torpedo trails have already been made in BC, by LJ if i'm not mistaken.
As long as I know the missiles in the SG Pack v3 contains such trails.

Splitting (even infinitely splitting, but I really wouldn't recommend it) torpedoes are in FoundationTech, as USS Frontier said, trails can be done (particle emitter, again, as USS Frontier said).

Combining the two is also possible, just provide a new projectile tech that accepts 2 (or more) projectile techs.

Now, model projectiles are something else entirely, it's possible to load a model on projectile fire, but that model won't have any direction associated with it.
Meaning, you would have to, somehow (I haven't figured it out yet), reorient the model with the projectile itself.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

I suppose you could just create the projectile for that purpose as being used as a torpedo.

Is it possible for the child torps to have a different model(all the same ofcourse...for now till we no for sure either way) than that of the parent?

And im sure some of you might be getting the impression that I will be doing this myself, im not, im just very curious as to how close we can get it in game as it is in the movie. Im basically thinking/mussing aloud.

Each child is defined by it's own projectile script. They are in fact all perfectly fine projectiles in their own right.

So, in short, other than the orientation problem, all of this is possible.

Oh, and I forgot to ask, can torp slitting be set to occur at a specific distance from the target?

Time or distance, any other criteria will have to be programmed. If I recall correctly, it's possible to combine both, meaning after X seconds, split when closer than Y, or the otherway around.

Each of the mentioned functions (action by time, action by distance and splitting) are seperate components that can be used together.

what about the seek type of the Naradas missiles

they are like the missiles in SFC1 and 2, they head toward the target and seek behind it with a tight turn radius. they don't lead into the target, they just seek incredibly well

can this be done in BC?

Maybe. if you think of the positron torpedo, that tracks you down all the time. But the tight turns do require you to fly exactly the way the missile should. and if you look at the way you fly in bc, it sometimes means flying just right and left without changing the axis. that would suit legacy better imo

but the positrons lead into the target to seek it

missiles follow behind a target and they dont lead into it

There is no AI for projectiles in BC, it's only a matter of speed and nimbleness (rotational speed).
In theory, it might do want you want to do if you target a subsystem at the back, but it will always try to fly in a straight line.

Meaning, you would have to, somehow (I haven't figured it out yet), reorient the model with the projectile itself.

Couldn't You just orientate it to match the Torpedo or Pulse Launcher it fired from?

It may not be perfect but it could work all the same.

Torpedoes alter direction, but the orientation of the projectile itself does not.

Splitting is standard with FoundationTechnologies.

And ask LJ for the smoke, he created that part. ;)
Or ask the BSG mod people.
