Is that what I think it is?(JJPrise)
« on: January 06, 2010, 03:13:26 PM »
Does anyone else see what I see here? Could it be? Or maybe its just a nod to the Galaxy?
All hail the messiah!

But we never saw it happen and no matter what the production said it could and couldn't do, I don't believe it. And didn't they say in TNG that the Galaxy was the first class to be able to saucer seperate?

... Galaxy was the first class to be able to saucer seperate?

I am fairly sure that nothing like that was never stated... Not to be rude or anything.

I'm sure it was mentioned in the first episode just after Picard orders for the Enterprise to be prepared to seperate.

First starship ever able to separate and reintegrate without the aid of a starbase.

No sorry... I just watched the first 30 minutes of "Encounter at Farpoint" ... And unless it is encrypted with a 2048 bit sentence, he never said anything like that... I do think I remember the original German sync voice overlay, making such a statement in a failed translation, wich was later corrected.

right... the TOS and TMP connie had explosive bolts that could sep the saucer from the star drive in an emergency... there is a drawing made displaying this and it was also mentioned in the Ent technical book.
better evidence was the line Kirk told Scotty in a TOS ep I can't recall, stating that in not exact words if he had to he was to sep the ship and run.

The only way I want the JJPrise to seperate, is if it explodes, lol.

Make this happen Abrams!

Tasha Yar said that to Picard when they were onboard the shuttle flying to Enterprise docked in drydock and it was in 'All Good Things' I think.
And that would be logical, every ship should have ability to separate saucer section from stardrive when drive is too badly damaged but they wouldn't be able to reintegrate cuz they're not connected with maglocks like Galaxy or Prometheus. I read somewhere that during separation, microcharges explodes throughout neck connection to saucer, airlocks are sealed and stardrive dissconnects from the saucer (which is now only running on batteries without warp capability and limited impulse power - due to lack of either main or auxiliary power units) This would mean that Galaxy was indeed the first ship to separate, Constitution ejects/severs half of the ship permanently.

What Picard said in Encounter at Farpoint was that no starship had ever separated at warp speed before.

And Kirk's words to Scotty were in "The Apple": "Scotty, discard the warp engines and blast out of there with the main section if you have to!"

Also, it was virtually impossible up until the Galaxy class for starships to reintegrate on their own as the secondary hulls typically didn't have impulse propulsion.  That even includes the JJConnie.

The the JJprise would also need a battle bridge as well

I wouldn't think so Baz, why have a battle bridge when the engineering section has no (visible) impulse drive. Though I doubt that will stop JJ.

Most likely it will happen in the last film of the new series, where the warp core goes *boom*. Or a plot-line where the ship is separated by a bad guy trying to steal tech etc.

Maybe, like on the original Enterprise, it will never be used. Perhaps it's just a homage to the idea?

Its possible there a impulse engines hidden somewhere in the neck, or on top of the neck after it separates.

That could also be where they attached the saucer to the secondary hull, could mean nothing.
