I hav a anwser, Star Trek fandom, the anwser!
« on: March 20, 2010, 10:29:00 PM »
Tonight i was banging my head :banghead:, thinking why do so many people hate Star Trek, Then it occurred to me that everyone that is not a star trek fan believes it is hard to understand, and the only action comes from space battles. what they havent seen is the EPIC (we need a emoticon for that) land battles, weather it be The Siege of AR-558, or the later half of First contact to the ground escort of Insurrection, and the scramble between Data and Locusts of Borg.  :assimilate

Non Trek fans also call us "Trekkies", but that is wrong
Trekkie :hithead:-Someone that only watches newer trek and thinks they know Star Trek, and talks about it too much (in simpler words, they have no life :picardfacepalm:)
Trekker :dontcare:-A person who follows Trek, and does not overuse it's concepts (they have a life outside of Trek, and have better Trek smarts than Trekkies  :drink2:)
Non-Trek  :bitch:- Bashes Trek fans, protect Star Wars with their mind, body, and soul (at least some of them at least we can fight them with this-  :SWvST:), and are the 1 rating N00bs :newbie: on BCFiles and to these i say  :screw: :biatch:

Now yall will say  :serious: ,but it is true.

That is all

I call myself a trekkie. It sounds better to me. Also, Star Trek is merely a series I've liked most of my life.
Seriously?  Did you post this just to use the new smileys?
Beat me to it. This is why we can't have nice things.

the general consensus is that Star Trek is a dork geek thing, and by nature most people are automatically turned off by that, and dont bother trying to watch it because of that...

that being said, most general population loves the new reboot movie...

there is also a thing of overcomplicating and overthinking and overanalyzing such a thing  :P

in either event, anyone who posts here in this forum is obviously a trekkie/trekker/dork/geek so who cares about the rest of the world?  lol j/k :P
(yes we are all geeks lol :P)

edit -
btw i dont feel there was an excess of emoticons used in the first post...
thats why we have more - emoticons are meant to express and covey the thought/post even moreso...  i regularly use them myself :P

and this thread does have a point, with or without emoticons...
so on that, we'll go from...  :)

1st - I go by Trekkie.  It's a matter of pride.

2nd - Many people that say they don't like Star Trek only say so because it is general consensus that Star Trek is geeky.  I also am a fan of Star Wars.  Let me ask:
A.  Does Star Wars have good characters?  Yes
B.  Does Star Wars have a good plot?  Debatable, varies amongst movies, however they sure have less inconsistencies than Trek.
So why is Star Wars viewed as less geeky?  I think the most syndicated series of Trek was Voyager.  What was Voyager all about?  Everyone remember the Warp 10 episode?  Yeah...  Star Wars is powered by the story and characters.  That's probably why I like Deep Space 9 the most, even though I've seen the least episodes of that series versus all others.  That's why so many people like the new Trek.  It revolves around the characters.  So the best way to do Trek nowadays is to focus on characters and their interactions.  If they were to do a series post-Nemesis as many Trekkies/Trekkers have suggested, they would have to stop focusing on technology, politics, exploration, and such.  They would have to use truly original characters so people don't think it's just a rehash of old material and old timeframes.  The new Trek effectively dodges that problem by just saying the past doesn't matter, we are distinctly separate.

Ah, I did all this in the Star Trek XI thread.  I'm sure you all have heard it before.  I thought I said I'd retired this old soapbox. :banghead:

I'm a Stargatertrekkiewarsiewhovian ( ) so I am getting the best of the mainstream franchises without spreading myself too thin.

What bugs me, is how some people that call themselves fans, are constantly trying to put each franchise against each other. They have their good points, and they have their bad points. In the end, the differences don't matter. All it comes down to is one simple fact, that we are all geeks, and that we are willing to hang out with other geeks who are willing to have the same views as us.

I was never a major fan of the new Trek XI, but I watch it, because above all else, it is just a alternative to an already great early history.

Can't wait for 2014 to start.

and you guys STILL have the identifier phrases wrong!

tekkIES are the older fans and the non participating fans, trekkERS are the extra geeky ones that make they're own Klingon Foreheads and Bat'Leths and other props and costumes to go to the conventions with (the ones the actors have to put up with drooling fanboy water all over them)

those of us here are technically caught in the middle, not quite drooling fanboys, but we are making our own props :P

Spam thread tbh. You're all splitting hairs and missing the point bigtime. People don't like trek not because its hard to understand, but because it is generally boring. Different strokes for different folks, ever heard that one? People don't like it because it's not their thing. Do you enjoy Bold and the Beautiful? (Stay out of it, Jimmy  :funny Joking! Joking!) I wager most of you do not. Why?

Because its not your thing.

Who cares? Nobody. I don't understand the point of your thread, except that you seem to think everyone should like trek.

dunno what is it all about... Trekkie, SW fan, what's the difference... it's really annoying that there is group of fanatics that fight with fans of other sci-fi shows... I like about every sci fi movie/show available and I'm definately neither a fanatic nor narrow minded Trekkie who fights with Lucas universe and that fight is his priority... I love Star Trek as well as Star Wars, Stargate (only first movie and few seasons watched), Battlestar Galactica, Andromeda, Space Beyond and Above, Sequest (not in space but still it's sci-fi) Space 1999 etc.etc. and that's why I don't understand whole rumbling around ST vs. SW war... silly thing to me  :roll

I love Star Trek in almost all its incarnations (early Voyager, early Enterprise, STV and STIX are blech), and I also love Star Wars(though nowhere near as much as Trek).  I consider myself a Trekkie because that's what Trek fans are, and Roddenberry himself disliked the term "Trekker".

Aye, Trekkie sounds a lot better, somehow Trekker sounds like something associated with people who's hobby is country walking or something like that ... :funny

People don't like trek not because its hard to understand, but because it is generally boring.

You're right, for me. I generally do not like most of ToS, only a couple of episodes, I like all the ToS cast movies except for TFF. TNG, I like more episodes of (probably because there are more episodes) but still My favourite series is DS9, I've seen nearly every episode of DS9.

Well, since this is at the top of the forum, I don't feel bad about posting in an "old" thread.

. . . the extra geeky ones that make they're own Klingon Foreheads and Bat'Leths and other props and costumes to go to the conventions with (the ones the actors have to put up with drooling fanboy water all over them)

those of us here are technically caught in the middle, not quite drooling fanboys, but we are making our own props :P

Speak for yourself, mate! :dance

Haven't done it for many a year, but I dressed up as Data for Halloween a couple of years in a row, AND went to a convention, entered the costume contest and caught second prize ($40 at the collectibles table) to a Borg.  Was the most d*mn fun I'd ever had.

I will proudly stand up and wear my Trekkie/Trekker tag, no matter the phrasing.  No sense in wasting a good obsession . . . right? :P

you know how much I'd like to go to a trek con?  I'd have a geekgasam.  i wanna hit one to tell the OS cast that's still alive 'thank you'.  I've been to other kinds of conventions, and I wanna be shocked at prices, and party with guys in full Klingon armor, chat with OS and MP fans, etc...but I had to skip the ONE convention I DO attend last year, cause my job dried up, and the bucks I had put up for it went into the vehicle :P  besides, I ain't forking out a small bloody fortune on a plane ticket halfway cross the country when I gotta go back to work on Monday morning (and can only show up Saturday morning)

Hmmm....

I do not consider myself a trekkie or trekker. I am a Star Trek Fan. I am actually a Star Trek fan the same reason why I am a lord of the rings fan. I like the mythology - taken on surface there really isn't a lot to it. However, if you gaze a bit below the surface there is a huge amount of expansive undercurrent (most of the reason why I like ST6 so much)
