Viper's Models
« on: December 09, 2009, 12:27:48 AM »
Well, I guess since I went and renamed the forum so that we could allow other artwork such as models, I should probably post some.

To start out, this is a German WWII Sd.Kfz. 138 Marder III Ausf M. This one was built for an upcoming magazine article. It features a high dollar VERY extensive photoetched brass set. It took about 10 months to complete, and probably 1-2000 hours. It's probably one of, if not the best models I've produced.

Next up is another model that was done for an article. This one took about 4 months to do. It ended up winning both a local and National award. It's an Israeli F-16I "Sufa". It's their advanced version of the F-16 and features some of the most advanced electronics and weapons. It also features the Conformal Fuel Tanks along the top of the fuselage.

A couple more for now.

This is a Civil war 3-inch Ordnance Rifle.

Ambassador Spock. This one has won several awards, including this Regional award and a National Award.

And last for now, an American M-47 Patton tank from the Korean War. The Koreans were deathly afraid of tigers, so the US painted the front of their tanks with Tiger faces. This was one of the more elaborate ones. This one was also featured in the Best Show Models of 2008 magazine [world wide]

this, ladies and gentlemen, is how hollywood professionals do models and miniatures for the big screen.  the brass model is particularly impressive to me because he actually made the header for the engine the proper heat-rust shade and texture.  the only thing missing was a couple oil streaks somewhere.

I gave up on models when they started falling apart if I breathed on them the wrong way.  i never did get the glue right, and painting details was beyond my crippled skill level (i have the physical version of dyslexia, which destroys a lot of my fine motor skills).  I could probably pull it off, nowadays (paint and all), but there's too many animals around that will walk in and on everything.

Thanks guys.  I'll have to see about getting some better pics of Spock and the tiger face. They were taken with the old camera and set up. Now I have a nice Nikon camera with a full light booth.

Ok, something new.  This is a BIG 1/32 Harrier. Took two months to complete, which is pushing it for something this big.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't post some of this here.  Anyway, I recently finished a ST diorama featuring a BOP. It's already won 2 1st place awards at contests.

There are about 70 figures on the diorama. Most have been modified to have "robes".  Only a few were painted to match the movie: The crew exiting the BOP and Uhura and the leading precession. Total on lighting is 5 fiber optic lights, 2 flicker LEDs, 10 incandescent LEDs, and 10 normal white LEDs.

So here she is...
