Making a ship

Hi everyone.
I just recently picked up a copy of bridge commander and since i love modding games i decided to give this a try. I was very happy when i read that milkshape can be used for this. So what i want to know is everything about creating an entirely new ship. I have previous modding experiences, but each game is unique and i wana know what goes for this one. If there happens to be a comprehensive tutorial on the subject that i have failed to found during my diggings on this site and filefront i would love a link to said document.
