Star Trek Unity
« on: July 12, 2010, 08:17:35 PM »
I was fideling around in unity 3d the other day and I gots and Idea, i wasnt sure were to put this but here goes. With the bc engine being so old, why not make a completely new engine that replaces the current one. Meaning, why cant we take one of the better game dev platforms, and re-form bc out of it. I did alot of work on this new game concept and heres what ive got so far. If this turns out, lets make this a community effort.

Platform:
Unity 3d
Scripts:
Java Script

Shadows arent supported in free unity, when it comes time for final prep, I'll activate a unity pro trial and add shadows, enhanced glows, etc...

Heres another render

Any chance we could see some decent ships in the engine?

Another Hour, another render even better than the last. Im noticing that almost all of the ships I have are having issues with mapping spec maps. Im going to consult the unity forums for advice.

Are there going to be orthos for this NX-Class (TNG-Era) refit?

Alright, ive got a whole web site created for the game

startrekalpha.webs.com

As you can probably tell from the link, I have changed the games name to Star Trek Alpha. The site has its own forum that includes a Credit thread for everything I use. Also, the game is now playable in-browser as you take basic control of the Krakow. Please send me a PM or email me at captain_licard@live.com if anything comes up or you have an idea. I encourage you all to register and participate on the site as this is a community project. I will still participate here and be releaseing mods for BC, but not as often scince I will be busy with STA.

P.S.
heres the latest render

All Coming in the mk2 alpha release, this is just to get something for people to use, the next release will have altitude change and zoomable camera. However, shadows are a pro-only feature and scince I dont have $3500 usd right now for a liscence, Shadows will have to wait until the final release.

It already feels really nice & I expect it to get much better :assimilate
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
 Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
