need a geek -save prompt/usb ect
« on: August 10, 2010, 10:36:44 PM »
recently a windows update took place on shutdown. I really didn't want it, it just did it.

Now I havea  floppy drive. This computer never had one. All my usb is very slow and I am getting popups saying this device would run faster if on a usb 2.0. problem is this is happening on the back parts as well as the front ports and I know atleast some of these are 2.0. Says I need a high speed controller installed. Is that hardware or software? It was running fine before, not it takes several minutes to transfer a couple hundred meg to my aux drives.

Also, when using IE or maxthon, downloading from filefront, I am getting the files sent to a "temporary folder" then opened on completion. It used to give me a chose where to save them before. How do I fix that?

there is an option you can change under "internet options" for IE and I'm not sure for Maxthon but yeah there should be one for it as well...

FF has it under tools/options/general

drivermax would spot those in a hurry, too. the only problem is, I've been reading a lot of "this makes it worse" reports on even simple drivers.

Drivermax Is a program It can be downloaded here, http://www.drivermax.com/.

BTW what version of Windows are you using XP, Vista, or 7? because the only way to keep something now from installing itself In Windows 7 Is to go into Windows Update manually and deselect the updates that you don't want or else It will take It upon Itself to install them. I had to do that myself from keeping over 40 different language packs from installing themselves.
Have a look at my website MeteorCreations

umm that's false... I've already made it so it has to ask me before it installs.

those are optional DL's and they won't auto DL... (I only DL 1 anyway and hide the rest).

If that's on XP I think you need one of the service packs to get USB 2 support.

You can uninstall the latest updates by going to controlpanel->software and ticking "show updates".

The list shows when each update was installed so just try them one by one going backwards.
