Tutorial - Bridge Lighting with VRAY
« on: February 02, 2011, 05:45:47 AM »
Firstly, let me apologise if this has already been released - I havent been around and cant remember this being made public before  :idk:. Secondly original credit for this technique goes to LC/Legacy, he taught it to me and I passed it on to the third era guys.

Basically these are a couple of video tutorials which I put together for the Third Era team which show how to use VRAY to generate lightmaps on bridges. The software will be a little out of date by now but the technique will still work.  My guess is that a few more people are aware of this by now anyways so I'm hoping that this just makes it easier for people to pick up lightmapping in the first place. The packages include the model files you will need to follow what I am doing on screen, however you will need Max and VRAY installed.

Pack 1 - VRAY Lighting

Pack 2 - Lightmapping

There's some great new talent emerging for BC Bridges, I hope this gives you all a bit of a helping hand.

I've been getting some strange results can anybody tell why it is missed sections and leaves black boxes.

When I made these I only had the floor, roof, wall and lift doors visable to get a uniformed look.
Whatever knocks us back, can only make us stronger.

Wish I could offer some advice but haven't tried VRAY yet.  Have you asked Mark?

Your unwrappings have overlaps.
Also, the result channel (texture) shouldn't be complete map, but vrayTotalIllumination map

Well the current state of my bridges are: -

Superstar destroyer abandoned (might resurect latter)

Relient - in game just need to sort of the extras animation and intergrate the revised Twok scripts to avoid the Generations bridge problems.

ST3 bridge - As with Reliant all in game but having script issues deleting unwated main crew members.

Ent-B bridge is all modelled and textured just needs my own Lcars since it is currently using 3rd Eras and have no permission to use them in a final release.

The JJBridge now has a roof but little else has changed since my last post on it.

Can't wait for the JJBridge baz, I'm looking forward to it as much as I'm looking forward to DS9 Ops.
