Yes, i have to agree with that, and of course, it still fits in with the story plot that i gave at the start, which is quite humurous.

Try something less epic, there are lots of minor powers out there we don't see much of or know much about,
The Breen, Sona, Tholians to name but three.

How about an alliance between two or all three?

I agree with Elim on that, there are far too many stories out there which are based on things like, Destruction Of the federation and against all odds such things.... To me that kind of story is just too unbelievable. When set in the star trek universe.

Well you can still have that, just with a less well known foe, which makes it a bit harder to guess what they're going to do next and more of a challenge.

Now that I like. Is there any ships for them though? I know someone was making a Sona ship somewhere.

There is a whole fleet of Breen ships on BCFiles (sans HP's unfortunately) that you could probably use with the modellers permission.

The Sona only has an old out of date Battleship (on BCFiles) so you could probably do with a modeller on your team to build the missing stuff.

I'm sure you can get an HP'er (sorry I'm fully booked at the mo. ;) )

The Alliance thing was only an idea, there's plenty of other ideas you could use;
Maybe two of them are at war, and you have to pick your way between them to complete missions?

Hmmm... We could set the player as feds and have to create a peace treaty between 2 warring factions, but not take sides.

Now that would be consistent with the feds. Have them flying around putting out gradually escalating brush fires perhaps.

Remember tho that most wars are over territory, so the two side would have to be adjacent to each other (with possibly a small gap of space between them - like the Klingons/Romulans/Federation and Bajorans/Cardassians).

That should give you a fair amount of scope for story lines.

If i could interject here.

Perhaps we could have a united alliance between factions of the Brean Alliance, Remnant Cardassian forces and a 3rd race.

For the 3rd race, it may be possible to do what all good Star Trek series did and re-use vessels with new textures.

I've seen a few that would look nice as a different race, if we could get the permissions from atolm i could retexture them.

Of course they'd need to be done properly otherwise they would look stupid.

We could say they've joined the feds, and for the third race

Mirror Universe anybody?
Or someother alternate timeline?

I'm getting better at HPing now, just need some moddellers and probably people who know how to texture from scratch.

Again, mirror universe and alternate time line are over-used plot devices. You need something more original and 'down to earth'

How about Breen, remenant Cardassians and Gorn?
Vs,
Klingon, Romulan and Kessok?

Whilst this brain storming is intriguing, i feel we are running off topic a little.

May i make the final suggestion by saying

Romulan (Tal Shiar Rebels) and Brean against the Federation and some klingon support or Klingon and some Federation support

there will only be 1 major klingon fleet engagement with the federation or vice versa and that would probably be the finale.

Other tasks might be convoy escorting in which they might help or minor border skirmishes.

I have to say im very much appealed by the prospect of creating and playing a campaign from a klingon perspective.

The Cardassians are unlikely to ally with the Breen, especially after the Dominion War.

The Sona and the Cardassians would be a good combi as they seem a lot more selfish as a people.

Klingon and Romulan? Lol, they hate each other, that's not a good alliance.

They used to be huge allies though, they gave ships to each other and both faught against Earth at around about the same time. Plus the new peace talks might of brought them together.

Not likely though is it, there has always been a despise surrounding the Klingon and Romulan empires, one might call it as much as utter detest for each other.

Actually, i thought the Klingons and Romulans allied during the later half of the 23rd century in which they shared the design plans for the D7 and they received the plans for the Romulan cloaking device.

It doesn't track with the political climate. The Klingons have a good alliance with the Feds, why jeopardise it?

Why did they joepardise it when they attacked DS9 (admittably there was an external influence, but they still chose to do it), why did they jeoparadise it in Best Of Both Worlds when they closed there borders and openly attacked federation starships.

As worf said, if the Klingon Empire returns to the old ways, there lust for battle will have no end.

Maybe because they had a changeling impersonating Martok?
