Youtube/Flash/Java Causing BSOD?
« on: March 01, 2011, 10:17:52 AM »
Okay, I have an issue, a few weeks ago, my PC started BSOD-ing from time to time when leaving a Youtube page while the video was still playing, no big deal, just wait for the video to end.

I re-installed Flash and 32-bit Java, no change, but still; no big deal.

I have now started playing Minecraft again, in previous builds, 32bit Java worked fine, but for the new build I had to install 64bit Java as well (Not instead of).

Now my PC stutters, freezes, then bluescreens arbitrarily while watching a Youtube video, sometimes I can watch a whole one, sometimes it BSODs 30 seconds into the video.

I don't see how the 64bit Java application affects it, as Firefox and Flash are 32bit programs; it just does.

No idea what to do; help would be greatly appreciated.

NOTE: I have neglected to try iYoutube in any other browser, I will do so when I get home. If the issue is resolved, I will re-install Firefox, if not, I will re-install Flash and Java (32bit) again.

Oh yeah, knew I'd forgotten something! Derp!

My PC is 1 year old, running 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium. 6GB RAM, 2.66GHz processor, 1GB nVidia GT220 graphics card.

I'd uninstall both flash and java then reinstall... there may be some sort of conflict that happened...

Did that last night, to no avail; I've also turned off Hardware Accelleration, but haven't had a chance to test.

hmm, id suggest doing a system restore to before flash was installed(if possible) then i would open command prompt as an administrator(right click on it and click"run as administrator) and run CHKDSK, from there if it does find any bad sectors, you have your prblem.

or it could be one of your RAM cards not reading/writing properly, that should be easy enough to fix(usually dust getting into the channel causes this) but just hope for the best, i have had this sort of BSOD aswel, but the method mentioned seemed to help it you just gotta try, and after system restoring install ALL system updates.

I would system restore, but I installed flash on the very first day I got my PC; IIRC It only gives me one or two restore points anyway.

I'll check my gfx card and RAM, but most likely turning off hardware accelleration will have worked, I just need to test it.

Oh you mean the beta 64bit Flash released last November, that is unstable and won't work on 32bit browsers (such as Firefox, only avaliable in 32bit)?

No, I will not download buggy software without reason. So to answer your question completely, only 32bit Flash player.
