Here's the thing though, I noticed that LeVar Burtons comment was "Stopped by to see how the TNG conversion to HD for Blue Ray was coming along..."

That doesn't exactly specify if the remastering of TNG is going to add any new special effects like was done on TOS. From what I've been reading TNG is definitely going to go to HD/Blu Ray and will be "remastered" for high res... but I haven't read anywhere that the show will specifically also have updated special effects.

I hope I'm wrong because it would be awesome if new effects were added.

Good point moed.  Though I agree, it would be nice, especially with the first couple of seasons.

Thing about that is they're going to have to redo the special effects anyways, since TNG was finished on video (that was the main reason why TNG took so long to get an HD upgrade, upgrading video is expensive to do). I doubt that they'd use the same dated effects when they have to redo them from scratch regardless.

ya but to what scope?  sure they could make things prettier and crisper, but how far they will go as far as really remastering things i am curious...

I'd take a min and read this article it is quite interesting....

Quote
It is quite possible to remaster TNG in HD. As previously stated it was shot on 35mm film. Re-transferring and re-editing from film is not as difficult as it sounds. Even though the series was edited on video tape care was often taken at that time to reference KeyKode (the film equivalent of timecode) either by retaining this information in the extra timecode bits on the video tape or by transfer logs which match the videotape EDL to the film negatives' KeyKode. This makes finding the shots and re-cutting them quite easy. Even if this type of match-back is not possible there are many talented online editors who can eye-match the shots (although this does consume much more time than the match-back).

What are you talking about??
This thread is all about the TNG remaster...

we know it's coming and what eps are going to be in the preview Blu-ray but we don't know how it's going to be done.... (that's the topic as of now concerning the Remaster) It will evolve as we get more info.

oh and my previous post was linking to an article on how and what the TNG remaster may be done/look like.

Personally I can't wait to see this preview.

The thread I linked to is called "Star Trek: The Next Generation in HD" are you just reading the banner up top? (look further down)

It talks about How a TNG remaster could be done (regardless of the date it was posted)

If you still can't see it I might as well just post the whole thing here later.

yes neb, i know what youre talking about...  i was commenting on how quickly the thread went offtopic to suddenly have people arguing about the price of the Sopranos series on blu-ray (page 2) and Transformers and everything else not having to do with the topic of the thread, which is Star Trek TNG in HD lol

I was just able to access the video, it has a 4:3 shot of Picard at the end of Encounter at Farpoint.  "Let's see what's out there."  Followed by a 16:9 shot of the D entering warp.  The CGi was incredible.
