Awesome!

But there's something about that impulse engines proximity to those aft escape pods that seems to me those pods would get fried with the residual radiation emanating from that engine.

But... maybe duranium alloy is somewhat resistant to said radiation  :idk:

Moed, I would imagine that there is either no harmful radiation that comes from the impulse systems, or it is as you said and duranium is extremely resistant to such radiation.

Take a look at a Galaxy Class Impulse Engine.  The windows just below it aren't much farther away than the pods on the Eximius.  And they aren't even duranium, they're transparent aluminum.  I guess the same could be said for any class with an impulse engine in the center of the spine.

*raises hand*  Uhm...There aren't supposed to be windows underneath the Secondary Hull impulse engine....however...The ones on the sides aren't too far from the engine too...

What exactly do you mean when you say they aren't supposed to be there?  They obviously are there, since that's a screencap directly from the show . . .

EDIT: You were right, comment deleted!

Anyways, back on topic...

In case you wanna read more about it.
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
 We are not now that strength which in old days
 Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
 One equal temper of heroic hearts,
 Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
 To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
