problem is if i do tweak em it wont save properly, i dont know why thats happening, plus i cant layer the escape pods over because the when i try to it just selects everything....

try editing them, save them under a different filename in your program, then go into windows and rename them to what you need yourself, that MAY circumvent that issue

other than tweaking the UVW mapping on the model, i dont see much that can be done.  :idk:
