Akira Bridge WIP + some modding tips
« on: October 01, 2011, 04:17:52 PM »
Can't stop dabbling when bridges waiting to release on hiatus... soooo, here's some WIP of possible new Akira bridge.

Used Generations Galaxy as base - which was LC's plan also when he was considering Akira, and seems appropriate module design -  with redress chairs and consoles from DS9/VOY era ships.  Basically just doing what a Trek set artist would do and taking different elements from appropriate era film/TV show and combining to  create new-look bridge.

And some tips to share with bridge modders:

1.  These ingame shots are from a non-lightmapped bridge.  Instead, I added an omni light at 70% illum and exported bridge complete with omni as nif.

2. By not adding lightmaps, but using gamma/normal structure,  bridge has the red pulsing on all surfaces when at red alert.

3.  Red pulsing will only work on map surfaces that have a light or grey, not dark,  ambient and diffuse surface.  Need to adjust in material editor.

interesting. a hybrid between an Intrepid and Generations bridge.
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

That is a very nice bridge, fits in well with the era. Could actully see it TLE 'sed with different textures. Its a very modual design.

 :yeahthat:  what he said  :)

I should really finish off and release other bridges first (Flyer, NemSov, Venture), but this may end up being first.  Like Baz, moving and waiting to settle into new place...

Not really major update (been busy with apartment move/reinstalling on new PC/setting up website) but just experimenting with alternative decor scheme to original darker one above.  Still all WIP...

I like it, but...I can't say I'm fond of the Intrepid-style command deck.  I hated that on Voyager.  What idiot in Starfleet decided that the "center seat" tradition needed to go?

Personally, I feel that is bit large for an Akira, but it is VERY Good work, and 'wait for it' COOKIE

I think the set looks pretty cool.  Is it just me or has there been a bit of progress on the new crew bots too?

i wonder - would it be too much trouble to "shrink" down the set a bit?  the size as is is fine, but somehow if it isnt much trouble i think it would be more feeling war-like if it was a little bit smaller...

Personally, I preferred the blue carpet trim over the current red one. In either case, I think the color needs to be desaturated somewhat, so as to not look as "cartoonish" compared to the rest.

Overall, I quite like this design style.

I actually hate to disagree with you, but I think it was a great idea!

Started VRAY on bridge; properly lightmapped bridge may psychologically feel less space-y. As can see from renders (not ingame pics) still experimenting with different color schemes.  Gone back to Defiant/DW-style brownish walls, and kept blue carpet edging rather than red as felt better with blue underlights.  All still a bit up-for-grabs so will take a consensus if can't decide myself  :)
