3Ds Max, building a ship (first time)
« on: November 07, 2011, 04:57:48 PM »
So guys,

After making a small movie using models (free) in lightwave layout and using AE etc. I'm finally learning in my school to use: 3DS max, lightwave, blender and within a few weeks Maya. But we are only learning the basic steps..

I have made a blade runner cyberpunk city but it only consists out of big cubes, cilinders,(extruding etc.) Texturing is something we are gonna learn later.

Do you guys know, which ship or shuttle is easy to begin with? Don't give me the typical joke like: "a borg cube..." I've heard this on other forums and in my class too..  :D

an easy shuttle to do would be the ones seen on enterprise D, as theyre mainly a coupld of hexgonic prisms stuck together.

If you wanted to go really basic- try building a TOS shuttlecraft.

Very similar to the STV shuttle. When I built that I started with a plan with no segments from the top view and only half across the hull. Using that and your left (or right )plane view extrude the edges and move the verts to build up the shape.

There are some car tutorials on you tube that follow this methood.

hope this helps.

Try making an Reman Scimitar or Voyager  :funny .
Really, try build something like the TOS Constitution i have already built one(and the people here on the forum knows well how i'm full of trouble when building ships) another basic scratches you can try doing is the Rhode Island or something like the Galaxy but with this one you must have pacience.

If you find this too complicated try making an Borg cylinder  :D (really it is hard to make on the right size) or a Transwarp Hub :P:thumbsup:
