loss
« on: October 18, 2011, 07:27:36 AM »
well, fellas, looks like I'm out of the game.

I was hit by an old fashioned virus while I went to work thismorning.  everything's been purged from the comp but the internet connection, including all saved mods, working mods, shortcuts, pics, etc.  now I know why I lost all my personal pics a couple months ago.  there are only three things on my desktop at all.  an empty My Documents, IE, and the recycle bin

the odd part?  the net connection, my onlines and such are still there, but there's no way to access either hard drive, or any program files

just got a mail back from my Microsoft certified ex.  he says that the virus set all files to hidden.  note that I've already had my virus scanner nail the thing, but not before it marked everything invis

and, no, nebs, with everything rendered "hidden", there's no way to tun off the "hidden" switch

press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and do a new task and input explorer.exe, that should run, if it does just set all files to visible from hidden, that will most likely work, if not...i dunno.

WHEW.  i found it (not only were they set to "hidden", they were set to "read only"!)

note for future goofs: right click still works

I was informed that the start menu needs rebuilt.  I'd like to add a few items to that.
